Operators of two of the largest U.S. ticket marketplaces say they are seeing declines in orders for NFL games amid festering controversy over the national anthem.
NFL ticket sales at TickPick slumped 17.9 percent this week compared with the prior week, their steepest decline since 2014, while sales at TicketCity plunged 31 percent. For pro football games in September, ticket sales at TicketCity are down 16 percent from a year ago. TickPick's NFL sales rose this month, but by the smallest margin since 2015. The vendors' data reflect tickets sold in the secondary market, as opposed to direct sales from NFL teams.
The slump in ticket sales underscores the pressure facing the NFL over the anthem protests, which were started last year by former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The league's television ratings also appear affected, with viewership down 11 percent so far this season and some fans are calling for a boycott of the NFL's corporate partners.
"There are people who are saying that this is my form of entertainment and I don't want politics in my entertainment," said TickPick co-CEO Brett Goldberg, emphasizing that he doesn't personally share that viewpoint, in an interview.
A new poll by CBS News found that Americans are unhappy with both the protests during the anthem and President Trump's comments on the issue.
Views hinge on partisanship, but also shift with how Americans view the intentions, not just the actions, of the players and president. Most Americans say that the players' intention is to try to call attention to racism. However, Republicans also feel the players are trying to disrespect the flag and the military, too and strongly disapprove.

“An American flag coming to your rescue is the most glorious sight to see”
A long time ago I watched a movie, “Not Without My Daughter”. As the mother struggled to smuggle her daughter out of a Muslim nation, she finally saw the American Embassy with the American flag flying in front. I don’t know how she felt, but I know how I felt, and it made me cry.
Hate it but I think you are correct.
I usually watch at least parts of games. No more.
Yes, and the irony is that the greatest form of racism is that practiced by government, Affirmative Action.
Whomever wrote that did an incredible job. It was an honor to share it with everyone. Please help pass it around because these words MUST be read by one and all. We cannot let human debris dishonor all those who sacrificed including my late husband who now lies in a national cemetery with his brothers and sisters.
There is no more sobering reminder of the sacrifice of so many than to visit Arlington National Cemetery and look out over those rolling hills where so many patriots reside for eternity.
It is up to us to ensure that their sacrifices are forever honored.
Yes...it was very moving.
I identified with it so much, as my Dad was a Vet of WW2 and Korea.
And I have held a musket ball in my hand as I gazed over the fields of Antietam, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, Yorktown, and Harper’s Ferry.
For those of us who love this country and value our freedom, thanks to the many who sacrificed so much, this current and ongoing Liberal-inspired insult is aimed at and against ALL of us and, thus, we take it personally. No backtracking on their part and linking arms in “unity?” will ever erase what these ingrates have done, in my opinion.
“Money is still flowing in. Things could change but will take sometime.”
While money is flowing in - some is coming from sources that may dry up. Take a look at your cable bill and compare to a year ago. Sports - particularly the NFL - forced cable companies to increase their payments which have been passed on to all customers in the form of relatively small fees most have not noticed - such as “Sports Programming Surcharge”... that on my bill now add up to $10 per month - whether you watch sports or not. Last month of that for me, I am upgrading my HDHR Homerun over the air system to DVR and cutting the cable. Enough is enough, will let my cable company know the reason I am stopping service is the charges for something I will not watch.
A lot of people are figuring out they can spend their time and money elsewhere for entertainment and avoid the politics. The players are killing the goose that laid their golden egg - this season may be the beginning of a big “correction” where teams make less and will be forced to pay less - so as contracts expire new ones will pay less. Teams that propped up their income by cable fees and increasing prices will soon find their supply is way more than their demand.
Same as we want freeways and roads to be our transportation conduits, and don't want protesters blocking our path. We don't want to see liberal politics in our TV entertainment. We don't want liberal spam to flood our mailboxes. We don't want liberal politics shoved in our faces. We don't want liberals taking away our rights to see and do what we want. We simply want to be left alone! They are not going to change us into becoming them! They will change us into wanting to destroy them! So keep it up, and I will never watch another NFL game, I'm done.
This article does not accurately describe the NFL’s problem.
Trump is not their main problem.
The players (and then indirectly the owners and the league) are their main problem.
They have insulted the majority of the fans.
Some of those fans don’t care and will go to games and watch anyway.
But a significant portion has been permanently alienated from the NFL.
Even if it is only 20% of their fan base that is a long term disaster.
There is no business plan that includes a permanent long term reduction of 20% of their customers.
Writers and broadcasters at CBS don’t know how to crunch business plan numbers.
We are going to win this—and they won’t understand _why_.
Me too, for the Patriots.
Don’t care if Tom gets his sixth ring.
It’s still baseball season, and I love my Red Sox. Ditto the Bruins.
When you poop where you eat, this is what happens!
From looking at the number of empty seats. These numbers seem rather low. I wonder if some big organization is buy empty seats to compensate for their loses?
Those are from last years figures. seems they’re making large profits. Clear case of not paying enough for the grounds keepers.
When these star athletes in football, basketball, baseball, etc., take a knee, I would like them to remember this video and see that many others throughout history have faced horrific adversity and we don’t see them “taking a knee” in protest of the American flag, American anthem, and disgracing the US Constitution!
US forces liberated the Buchenwald concentration camp near Weimar, Germany, on April 11, 1945, a few days after the Nazis began evacuating the camp. On the day of liberation, an underground prisoner resistance organization seized control of Buchenwald to prevent atrocities by the retreating camp guards. American forces liberated more than 20,000 prisoners at Buchenwald. They also liberated Dora-Mittelbau, Flossenbürg, Dachau, and Mauthausen.
Liberation by American troops of Dachau!!! Six million plus died at the hands of the Nazis. I don’t think any of those “taking a knee’ have a clue what true adversity and mass murder is like. Many groups of people throughout history have faced far worse, in my opinion. They managed to move forward and stopped blaming the world.

Comments anyone?
All of my face-palming is beginning to hurt.
F'ing morons.
AND...remember, many of these football guys went to college free, and probably never had to pass a course to keep going there all because of football.
That is NOT “oppression” by any stretch of the imagination.
“No, I don’t think so, this was a long time coming...The NFL continues to advocate Left wing causes, and the game is getting worse and worse.”
This ‘dressing in pink’ crap had the NFL on thin ice for me, to the point of not watching much in October. Grown men don’t go running around in pink (at least 98% of them, that is).
Obviously, this crap was the last straw for me.
Many of these tickets are tickets that have already been purchased from the teams and are being re-sold, so this is not hitting the teams in the pocket book.
