The stunning defeat of President Trumps chosen Senate candidate in Alabama on Tuesday amounted to a political lightning strike setting the stage for a worsening Republican civil war that could have profound effects on next years midterm elections and undermine Trumps clout with his core voters.
It marked yet another humiliation for the Washington-based Republican establishment, particularly Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), whose allies pumped millions of dollars into the race to prop up Strange and reassure his colleagues that they could survive the Trump era.
If youre an incumbent, you have to assume the wind is against you, said consultant Tom Ingram, a longtime Corker adviser. If you do run, you take nothing for granted and leave nothing on the table. You start out with one big strike against you: Youre an incumbent Republican senator.

“Let them. it just demonstrates how out of touch they are. President Trump will be delighted to work with Senator Roy Moore. He did his duty by showing loyalty to Luther Strange.
The Lamestream Media can spin this all they want. In reality, they’re terrified about these primary challenges. It doesn’t bode well for Establishment Democrats or GOPe, and their propaganda is as transparent as it gets...”
Thank you.
For those worried about the media’s spin on this does anyone on this board honestly think that if Strange had won that they would be giving ANY credit or positive review of Trump’s endorsement for Strange?
Neither do I.
The stories are pre-written. One for one either candidate winning and the spin that comes with that but either one prepared to put Trump and the gop in the worst possible light.
Wrong again. This will strengthen Trump as we defeat more establishment Republicans. Once again this paper has it backwards, embarrassing.
I look forward to some rinos retiring prior to the elections so as to spend more time with their families (or gin bottles or whatever).
Nope, that old treasonous bat has 2 or 3 more years left on it’s term and has stated it intends to run for gov once this is over...
The Washington ComPost really sounds concerned. /sarc
So, NFL Black Panther playah’s union — how’s that “struggle” going for ya?
Thanks EliRoom8. What do the RINOs do now? They don’t like President Trump anyway — but from a political tactical standpoint, they can’t either get or reject his endorsement...

He’s facing a man name Doug Jones... and no, Jones has no shot at winning... While VOX and other left wing mouthpieces have been trying to rally the troops to him for the general, going so far as to publish push polling showing him within the margin of error.. more reliable polling just out on the 25th has Moore up 22.
For a democrat to take Alabama statewide would require the state to swing 20+ points from where it has in ever election since the early 90s... and there is NOTHING on the radar that is going to cause that to happen.... The general national tone is heavily against the democrats, outside of the urban centers of the coasts..... Both Romney and McCain took AL by 22 points.. Trump got it by 28.
To put perspective on this, Moore’s roughly 40% of the primary vote he got that forced the run off, was only 500 votes shy of the cumulative vote totals for every one of the democrats combined... Yes the R race was more competitive so it had better turn out, but that’s not a little thing.... thats how conservative Alabama is. Look at where Strange won, same places Democrats do.. urban centers... that’s it. Jones will see the same voting pattern, and won’t get 40% of the vote on election day.
It is so great to have you back :-)
They don’t get it because they all, both sides are so wrapped up in their own invented reality, they have completely lost touch with the people they are supposed to be representing (by and large).
The GOPe/Uniparty/McConnell spent $30 MILLION to try to destroy Moore... $30 MILLION!!!!! Meanwhile Moore spend $3 Million... Ask yourself... WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT? Do they think Moore won’t generally vote for conservative legislative measures???? Do they think his vote wouldn’t be reliable for the things the GOPe CLAIM to represent? Why? Why spend $30 Million and try to personally destroy a man over a Senate Seat? If Strange is remotely the conservative you try to play him as.... what are you afraid of? Moore certainly isn’t going to go far off the reservation when it comes to conservative principles... So why did the GOPe/Uniparty/McConnells of the world spend that much money to try to DESTROY him????????
I would love to have McConnell in a chair across from me, for an hour, and ask him that very simple question.... Do you think Moore won’t vote to repeal Obamacare? Do you think he won’t vote for tax cuts? Do you think he will oppose the border wall? Do you think he will oppose Military Spending? Deregulation? etc etc etc.. any of the broader sweeping principles they claim the GOPe is for... do you think Moore will be drastically different that Strange would be in support of those ideals? If not.... why would you try so hard to destroy him????
He was up 8 in a head to head race vs the sitting Dem the day he announced... Assuming he can actually campaign, (popularity and fame are a great base, but need a bit more to push it over the line) he should be able to handily win.
Follow the money.
D.C. is a cash machine.
Anyone who might get in the way of dispensing trillions of dollars must be destroyed at any cost.
Thanks KC_Lion!
Fixed it for you.
In fact, you are among the beneficial fungi.
Thank you for this clear and detailed explanation. I appreciate it and so do others.
He tossed McConnell a bone, and supported his boy Strange. Now he’ll give Luther some sub-cabinet level, but well-paying job. Here, Scott. I took care of your boy. Now get with my agenda.
As implied in my understated comment.
That would be awesome. Sessions has been a major disappointment as DOJ head.
