Two Republican senators have introduced a new bill that addresses the status of hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers, potentially offering them a 15-year path to citizenship.
The bill, known as the SUCCEED Act, would also prevent recipients from sponsoring family members, an attempt to address concerns from immigration hawks and President Trump.
"This, I believe, is a fair and orderly method for providing a permanent solution for the DACA children," Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., told reporters today.
To be eligible, participants would have to pass a criminal background check and have a high school diploma or equivalent. They would also have to have been in the U.S. since June 15, 2012, and entered before the age of 16. To qualify, applicants would need to submit biometric and biographical data to the Department of Homeland Security. The SUCCEED Act would also require participants to pay off any tax liabilities and sign a waiver for future immigration benefits if they were to violate their status.
Under the proposal, Dreamers would have "conditional permanent residence" for 10 years before becoming eligible to apply for a green card, and that status could be renewed after five years. Dreamers would only be able to apply for citizenship after holding a green card for five years.
Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said he spoke with President Trump about the proposal shortly after Trump decided to end the existing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Lankford told reporters the president had said of the SUCCEED Act: "'That's the right way to go.'"

Reality is that the current number of so-called DREAMERS could be assimilated, I would insist on:
1. The Wall. Not necessarily a brick and mortar the full length, but END the illegal entry as we know it. There are technologies that could be used for vast areas of open land.
2. End chain immigration. Period.
3. Applicants must pass the same written (in ENGLISH) test that all other legal immigrants face.
4. End auto citizenship for children born in the US to persons under jurisdiction of another nation. Resolve the idiocy of the 14th amendment.
In so far as taxes go, how would their tax bill be calculated? With the various redistribution schemes in the tax code, we could end up owing them money. Rather a fee similar to the cost many take on with a college loan.
I’d like to see eligibility requirements like:
- No criminal record.
- Not on public assistance.
- Pass a drug test.
They can't fix the Wall , healthcare or taxes but they can ram through Amnesty for the Left .

Just as with everything else, all the things that we like will get challenged in Court, go unenforced, or get changed by the Democrats when they inevitably win back Congress. So this is a complete capitulation to illegal immigration.
If this admin wants to show they are serious about ending illegal immigration, put the military on the border NOW.
Also: NO citizenship for illegals. Especially the ones who hate the Constitution and limited government.

Why is it so hard to understand that this just incentivizes millions more to enter illegally and await their free prizes?

The problem I see is, you compromise after you put your demands on the table. This is starting out compromised and after negotiation will be nothing but amnesty. This bill is sending the message, again, if you break out laws and hide long enough, we will reward you. I agree, we are not going to send all these kids back to their home countries, I actually knew a girl who found out she is illegally in the country after she graduated high school. It was a sad situation. But while we let them stay, they should never be granted citizenship. There has to be a price paid to prevent the next amnesty mess.
It won’t be 800,000, it will be at least 2.5 million.
They are opening it up to a wider number than the current DACA.
Don’t fall for “amnesty today for a wall next Tuesday”.
