Two Republican senators have introduced a new bill that addresses the status of hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants known as Dreamers, potentially offering them a 15-year path to citizenship.
The bill, known as the SUCCEED Act, would also prevent recipients from sponsoring family members, an attempt to address concerns from immigration hawks and President Trump.
"This, I believe, is a fair and orderly method for providing a permanent solution for the DACA children," Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., told reporters today.
To be eligible, participants would have to pass a criminal background check and have a high school diploma or equivalent. They would also have to have been in the U.S. since June 15, 2012, and entered before the age of 16. To qualify, applicants would need to submit biometric and biographical data to the Department of Homeland Security. The SUCCEED Act would also require participants to pay off any tax liabilities and sign a waiver for future immigration benefits if they were to violate their status.
Under the proposal, Dreamers would have "conditional permanent residence" for 10 years before becoming eligible to apply for a green card, and that status could be renewed after five years. Dreamers would only be able to apply for citizenship after holding a green card for five years.
Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., said he spoke with President Trump about the proposal shortly after Trump decided to end the existing Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
Lankford told reporters the president had said of the SUCCEED Act: "'That's the right way to go.'"

My big concern seems to be addressed with this bill. No CHAIN MIGRATION.
If we an get Wall funding and strict bother controls to prevent another 800,000 from coming in the next 10-15years, I think it’s the best deal we an get at this time, especially give that POTUS is keen to resolve the DACA issue.

I agree. This horse is so long out of the barn we don't even know where it is. The GOP had a chance to fight this when obama issued his illegal EO but no one could be bothered. Republicans continually succumb to leftist incrementalism, time and time again.
The fact that this bill addresses chain migration is a positive...more than I would expect from the GOP. But I'll be surprised if it's in the final bill.
I know Trump wants a legislative win and that he plays 8 dimensional chess and I struggle with tic tac toe but I fail to see how pursuing the one thing (amnesty for any illegals) that will make him look like a phony to his base ... the ONE thing ... makes sense.
I approve of a path to citizenship, if it’s the right path:
Illegals should go home voluntarily, without needing to be deported, and apply for legal entry. Then, if their immigration is approved because it is in America’s interest, they should come here and follow the existing procedures to gain citizenship. That is the only acceptable path to citizenship for criminals who came here illegally, regardless of their age when they came. Rewarding crime by rewarding the children of criminals encourages more crime.
Alternatively, they can stay here illegally until deported. In that case, they should be permanently banned from any legal reentry or path to citizenship. Let’s restore the rule of law.

Add to that....what does this bill have in it for American citizens? Nothing. It’s just another amnesty bill.
I will accept ONE thing for the so-called “Dreamers”. Sign up for a term of service, and you can stay. Get an honorable discharge at the end of the term (and ONLY an Honorable. .. ) and you get granted citizenship. . .

Disagree. No path to citizenship other than getting in line in their birth countries same as any other applicant.
Worker permits are already legal, so use those if anything.
