Big wheels keep on turning Carry me home to see my kin Singing songs about the south-land I miss 'ole' 'bamy once again and I think it's a sin
Well I heard Mister Young sing about her Well I heard ole Neil put her down Well, I hope Neil Young will remember A southern man don't need him around anyhow
Sweet home Alabama Where the skies are so blue Sweet home Alabama Lord, I'm coming home to you
In Birmingham they love the Gov'nor, boo-hoo-hoo Now we all did what we could do Now Watergate does not bother me Does your conscience bother you, tell the truth
Sweet home Alabama Where the skies are so blue Sweet home Alabama Lord, I'm coming home to you, here I come
Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers And they've been known to pick a song or two (yes they do) Lord they get me off so much They pick me up when I'm feeling blue, now how bout you?
Sweet home Alabama Where the skies are so blue Sweet home Alabama Lord, I'm coming home to you
Sweet home Alabama, oh sweet home Where the skies are so blue and the governor's true Sweet home Alabama Lord, I'm coming home to you
Young sung that song 10 years too late. It had lost its bravado.
When the Confederate flag controversy was created, Southern stars that previously used the flag were told to get in line of be cast out.
Tom Petty was one of them. He publically disavowed the Confederate flag. He insulted it and its history, all to save his income stream.
Skynyrd was another. They were told they would get no more bookings if they did not come out and publicly disavow the flag.
So they did. To protect their income stream.
And now, like Petty, they are dead to me.
Dead, dead, dead.
I don’t tolerate traitors.
The governor in question was George C. Wallace, a more-or-less conservative Democrat and a presidential hopeful whom the liberals hated. The lyrics also refer to the Watergate scandal, which was approaching its climax when the song entered the charts in hte summer of 1974.
It was a joke. Ed was in on it.
Love Sweet Home. Cant stand that stoopid Freebird song.

What? You hate this song? lol So do I. It drones on and on and on.
I detest it.
oh
:) I love the movie with Witherspoon and the re-enactment. chick flick.
It was a joke but Ed played it so straight, especially at the performance that it wasn’t funny. His expression at the jam was too real.
I thought the whole thing was hilarious.
Well said.
Ruonnie VanZandt would often wear a Neil Young T-shirt on stage, and Neil Young once played with the band on the song in Miami. It was a good natured joke amongst them
