WASHINGTON — Noncitizens will still not be able to vote in local elections in College Park, Maryland, after city officials said Friday it did not have the required number of votes to adopt a much-debated measure. The announcement came several days after city council seemingly passed the measure Tuesday.
The measure, known as Charter Amendment 17-CR-02, would have allowed noncitizens to vote in local elections. But according to the statement from College Park officials released Friday night, there were not enough votes.
Most council actions require a simple majority, but changes to the charter require affirmative votes from six elected officials. That requirement came after the city charter was amended in June.
On Tuesday, when the measure was thought to have passed, the city council voted 4-3, with one abstention. That was actually not enough to pass the charter amendment.
“Therefore, Charter Amendment 17-CR-02 was not adopted,” according to Friday’s statement.

When was the decision taken (and by who) the votes by citizens no longer mattered and need not be followed? Non-citizens cannot vote.

That is so obvious that you’d think that the issue would never come up. But sooner or later some crazy town council somewhere will come up with enough council votes, and the issue will pass.
And the argument will be: Non-citizen are affected by government, so they should have a say in choosing that government.
Well, children are also affected by government, in particular by the School Board. Should children be allowed to vote for school board members? If you’re a “progressive”, I suppose you’d say yes.

Once the national spotlight was on them, they scurried away.
At least, now we know their true intentions. Some of us suspected it all along but here is hard evidence.

There are already a couple of incorporated areas in MD that allow illegals to vote in local elections.
In the infamous monkey county, there’s Takoma Park and Garrett Park.
From the Takoma Park Website:
“Voters must have resided within the City of Takoma Park for at least 21 days before the election in order to be eligible to vote.
City residents who are not citizens of the United States can register to vote in Takoma Park elections by completing the Takoma Park Voter Registration Application”.

Good point! But you must exclude dogs that are kept as pets. Those sort of dogs offend Muslims. We must do nothing that could possibly offend Muslims.
