A story by CNNs Andrew Kaczynski and Nathan McDermott published on Thursday features a video showing former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore suggesting the September 11, 2001 terror attacks may have taken place because the country had distanced itself from God.
Moore, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, made the remarks at the Open Door Baptist Church in Enterprise, AL in February. He read from Isaiah 30:12-13 and made the connection.

How does what he said differ from what you say?
It could be argued that 911 was the initiating stroke for your conclusion.
>> read the Bible<<
Simply that statement would have brought accusations that he was a “kook.” It’s how it is today.
Lunatic? Highly accomplished individual.Your statement is lunacy.
Interesting to see that Mitch McConnell and CNN have so much support on FreeRepublic.
He was removed from office twice for standing for what was right not going along with the convoluted laws/govt. in place today and each time the people supported him. That is why he is so popular even now.
You can choose to call him what ever name you want, but as long as he continues to Stand, I will be voting for him as well.
Please let this not be a Todd Akin moment.
Once again, another GOP Senatorial candidate “goes there.”
And for some damned reason, they wait until the GENERAL ELECTION to spew off.
“This is after people supported him to get there.”
He was twice placed in office by the votes of the people. He was not removed by the votes of the people, but by the “deep state” for standing on what he campaigned for. Why would that offend you. This is Free Republic, where most of us are against gay marriage and for the Ten Commandments.
In placing his version of the Ten Commandments in the Alabama Supreme Court building, Moore endorsed his sect of Christianity over other sects like Roman Catholicism and other religions like Judaism. Government, and government officials, should not be doing that.
Good for you!! If I lived in Alabama I would be casting my vote for him there also. We did donate to him from the Left Coast and pray that he prevails on election day. He is a "Daniel" !!
So you're one of the nutbags????
Roman Catholicism and Judaism both exalt the Ten Commandments.
Yeah,if everyone followed the ten commandments and the Golden rule, there would truly be Peace on Earth. Well that will happen someday but not by the work of man. NOTW
A very conservative area of PA was hit too or do the people on flight 93 not count.
Someone at that message and in that church betrayed a sacred trust when they decided to release that video. It reminds me of the accusers of Christ misunderstanding/falsely spinning His words.
Good point....wonder why Brooks didnt catch on?
At this point I hope Strange wins. Moore will be an embarrassment felt in other races across the country.
That’s too bad.
But the 10 Commandments which I, as a Roman Catholic, adhere to is different that the version that a Southern Baptist like Moore would quote. And the Jewish version differs from both.
Well, at least he’ll be no worse than Ron Paul, who also is not perfect (half right/half wrong) but has almost as nutty 9/11 conspiracy ideas.
When it comes to G-d, I think there is a theological confusion often between the idea that G-d knows the future and G-d making it happen.
I think many things considered “punishment” by G-d, past and present, were not so much G-d handing out the punishment as G-d knowing that our errors would be our own undoing, and through prophets some time trying to warn us. I think the punishment that comes was and is often not “handed out by G-d” but a result of what we ourselves caused. I think these punishments sometimes are more like G-d being the one who can lead a horse to the water, but can’t make him drink the water he needs.
