'No Fascist USA!': how hardcore punk fuels the Antifa movement

“No Trump! No KKK! No Fascist USA!”

When Green Day chanted the repurposed lyrics from Texan punk trailblazers MDC’s 1981 song Born to Die during the 2016 American Music Awards, it gave the burgeoning anti-Trump, anti-fascist movement the slogan it needed – and it would soon appear on placards, T-shirts and be chanted by protesters in their thousands in months to come.

It was a tiny piece of punk history writ large on American cultural life – but it only gave the merest hint of US hardcore punk’s influence on the current political landscape.

Exactly. Still have one of their cd’s from the ‘90s when they came out to lecture us on guns. It has two nice .223 holes in it.

This definition does not sound like Donald Trump. He does not exalt the nation above the individual; he just wants better deals for America and the American people in the international arena. Race is a complete non-issue, no matter how much the lamesteams lie about Trump’s views.

Definition of fascism

often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

Liberals are the real fascists! Democrats are the real racists! We just need to explain this to them. Learning this truth will cause them to feel shame, and reexamine their politics, and stop being drug addicts and perverts. Maybe Rush could do a few segments on this.

I spent 25 years in the back of vans, touring the world submerged in this culture. No, Green Day had no imprint in our world at all. Yes, these people are a large part of who is behind those black masks.

They are completely ignorant of history and politics. They have zero understanding of issues or legislation. Their left leanings are Pavlovian reflex.

Their love of rioting is simply a fashion that fits their self image. That’s it. No more to it. It’s no different than a Mohawk or combat boots. It’s their idea of being “punk”. It’s the ultimate in posing.

There is no reasoning with them. They are stupid. As soon as there are consequences they will stop immediately.

All of the guys that I grew up with in the early 80’s that were into punk, turned out to be staunch conservatives.

I have the same experience growing up and into serving in the Army. Later in the 90's we would listen to Rage Against the Machine and other "anti-establishment" groups to get pumped up for deployments. None of us were anything close to being leftarded. I am a huge Classic Rock fan and don't come close to identifying with druggies,hippies,ant-Americans and all of the other counter culture BS,but I just love the music.

Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, who wrote Holiday in Cambodia a definitely anti-totalitarian song, turns out to be a liberal anti-leftist who believes in free speech.

Even though I disagree with him on most every topic he appears to be a decent human being ... unlike the antifa scum.

You can’t explain it to them. People like billie jean from green gay or whatever that pimple-pop “punk” band is called, have been brainwashed for so long that they think up is down, the world is flat, and the sky is purple.

Green Day can kiss my a$$, they wrote a song in 2004 called “American Idiot” Never listened to them after that.

American Idiot, Green Day:

Don’t want to be an American idiot
Don’t want a nation controlled by the media
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mind-fuck America
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the idiot nation
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow
For that’s enough to argue
Well maybe I’m the faggot America
I’m not a part of a redneck agenda
Now everybody adhere to propaganda
And sing along to the age of paranoia
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the idiot nation
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow
For that’s enough to argue
Don’t want to be an American idiot
One nation controlled by the media
Information Age of hysteria
It’s calling out to idiot America
Welcome to a new kind of tension
All across the idiot nation
Where everything isn’t meant to be okay
Television dreams of tomorrow
We’re not the ones who’re meant to follow
For that’s enough to argue
Songwriters: BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG, FRANK E., III WRIGHT, MICHAEL PRITCHARD

...but in the very cited article, Biafra is anti-Antifa (even if he is wrong On other levels):

“I’m not down with confronting [the extreme right’s] provocations of violence with actual violence. I mean, self-defence is one thing, but going to a Trumpist rally with the express purpose of beating up fascists – what does that accomplish? Who’s the fascist now? It plays right into their hands,” he says.

“More than ever, we have to keep our heads right now. And I am all about freedom of speech, but I think protesting these people non-violently is the way to go, because it lets the targets of the fascist speakers know they’re not alone and lets the fascists who show up know that there’s an awful lot of people who are not down with them, and a chorus of raised middle fingers is better than showing up with some kind of a weapon. Escalating the violence is not the way to go.”
