Miami’s mayor on Hurricane Irma: ‘If this isn’t climate change, I don’t know what is’

By David Smiley

September 08, 2017 4:21 PM

Miami’s Republican mayor called on President Donald Trump and the head of the Environmental Protection Agency Friday to acknowledge that climate change is playing a role in the extreme weather that has slammed his city and the continental U.S. this summer.

Speaking from Miami’s Emergency Operations Center in downtown, where the city’s senior public safety and political authorities will ride out Category 4 Hurricane Irma this weekend, Mayor Tomás Regalado told the Miami Herald that he believes warming and rising seas are threatening South Florida’s immediate and long-term future.

“This is the time to talk about climate change. This is the time that the president and the EPA and whoever makes decisions needs to talk about climate change,” said Regalado, who flew back to Miami from Argentina Friday morning to be in the city during the storm. “If this isn’t climate change, I don’t know what is. This is a truly, truly poster child for what is to come.”

The Red Cross reported that 372 people died in the storm. Damages in 1926 dollars were estimated at $105 million, which would be more than $100 billion in today's dollars.

And the population of Florida was a fraction of today.

"the first Hurricane in 12 years must be caused by global warming."

That's right! That's what did it, man!

"Charles Manson, the notorious cult leader, has broken a 20-year silence in an interview from his prison cell to warn the world of an impending apocalypse due to global warming.

"Everyone's God and if we don't wake up to that there's going to be no weather because our polar caps are melting because we're doing bad things to the atmosphere," he said.

"The automobiles and fossil fuels are destroying the atmosphere and we won't have air to breathe".

Exactly.

The populations of cities increase. People build on flood plains they really have no business building on. They don't get the proper coverage. Bureaucrats are lazy in inspecting control measures. TV personalities build up the coming drama. Heeding warnings is unfashionable. Agencies stand by with with deep pockets.

So when the predictable and expected happens, it's not a hurricane being a hurricane. It's a climate-change disaster of epic proportions that no one could possibly foresee!!!

“If this guy isn’t stupid, I don’t know what is.”

He’s a politician, that pretty much guarantees that he’s stupid (and corrupt) at a level that is nearly beyond imagination.

Bernie Sanders: Climate Change is Directly Related To Terrorism

by Michelle Fields
Nov 14, 2015

"In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism," said Sanders.

"And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say, you're going to see counties all over the world...they're going to be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops, and you're going to see all kinds of international conflict."

Sanders said at the second Democratic debate in Iowa that climate change poses the biggest threat to America's national security and to security of the world. ..."

Bin Laden blasts US for climate change

January 29, 2010

CAIRO - Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden has called for the world to boycott American goods and the U.S. dollar, blaming the United States and other industrialized countries for global warming, according to a new audiotape released Friday.

In the tape, broadcast in part on Al-Jazeera television, bin Laden warned of the dangers of climate change and says that the way to stop it is to bring "the wheels of the American economy" to a halt.

On the extremely rare instances where I engage in this debate, I like to ask the advocate what the two conditions are for climate change to happen. They never have the answer. If they actually KNOW what those conditions are, then I simply will ask “Have those conditions been met yet?”, which, of course, they have not been.

Jane Fonda sounds climate change alarm in Toronto
The Star ^ | July 4, 2015 | Christopher Reynolds

"The climate change problem is the issue of our civilization. It will affect everything about our lives if we don't do something about it," she [Jane Fonda] says.
___________________________________________________November 22, 1970 -- During a fund-raising tour for GI deserters, Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Black Panthers, Jane Fonda is quoted in the Detroit Free Press as telling a University of Michigan audience:

"I would think that if you understood what communism was, you would hope, you would pray on your knees that we would someday become communist," and "The peace proposal of the Viet Cong is the only honorable, just, possible way to achieve peace in Vietnam."
http://www.wintersoldier.com/index.php?topic=Timeline
______________________________________________

Fonda made the following statement at the University of Texas:
"We've got to establish a Socialist economic structure that will limit private profit-oriented businesses. Whether the transition is peaceful depends on the way our present governmental leaders react. We must commit our lives to this transition ...... We should be very proud of our new breed of soldier. It's not organized but it's mutiny, and they have every right." --Karen Elliott Dallas Morning News December 11, 1971

From 1972: "I am not a do-gooder, I am a revolutionary. A revolutionary woman."

"...Mayor Tomás Regalado flew back to Miami from from Argentina to be home for the storm..."

Depending on where he was in that massive country, he may have just taken a roundtrip flight of 10,600 miles for a visit and he is going to lecture us about fuel, engines, weather, and climate? Get real, Mayor Tomás.

Hurricanes are a result of the Desert air from the Sahara Desert meeting the cool air from Antartica along the Western African Coast. They have been happening as far back as we can tell from early exploration 1700 years ago.

That 1938 hurricane also devastated Long Island, NY.

My mother was on the “El” - Elevated railway - in Brooklyn, New York, coming home from school when the wind and rain started to lash the railway station.

I have a book about the 1938 hurricane. The dust jacket states, “The weather forecasts in the morning papers on
September 21, 1938, for most of the northeastern coast said, ‘Rain and colder.’ By late evening 650 people were dead, 1,754 injured. Waves 30 to 40 feet high....winds blowing at a velocity as high as 186 miles per hour, and torrential floods in inland river valleys had devastated vast areas from Long Island to Canada.”

No satellite images back in those days, either. People had little if any warning.

The mayor of Miami is acting like this is the first hurricane to ever hit southern Florida. It’s just one of many.
