With ‘good woman,’ did Donald Trump just help Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp get reelected
Washington Post ^ | September 6, 2017

This is not a story you'd expect to read in 2017, but it happened: President Trump went to North Dakota on Wednesday and praised its Democratic senator, who is up for reelection next year, as a “good woman."

"Come on up, senator," Trump told a crowd at an oil refinery in Mandan, as he had a called up some of the state's elected officials, all of them Republican, save Sen. Heidi Heitkamp. "These are great people. They work hard. They’re for you 100 percent."

First of all, North Dakota is a cherry red state. And second, the Democrats there still hate President Trump, and so his endorsement is an “anti-endorsement”.

If she is,by chance, another Zell Miller then it's understandable why Trump might be making positive comments about her.

I don't think she's another Zell, but you have to ask yourself "how much worse could she be than many who CLAIM to be GOP - Flake, McLame, Linda Graham, ..."?

North Dakota population, around 757,000... there are not many people there, let’s hope they are smart enough to elect the best leaders. I’m not sure how she was elected in the first place. Of course, supposedly, the population has swelled some due to an oil boom. There are mixed signals though on that.

I had heard she wasn’t so liberal either but one of the posts indicate she’s still pretty liberal.

I don’t think the general public has any idea how tenuous our hold on the reserve currency is.

I have no idea what comes next. But if oil turns away from the dollar, centra banks will not need dollars in their banks. Those dollars will come flying home—and it would be a fire sale.

It will be slow at first. Hardly noticeable. But it will escalate so quickly that “most” Americans will be left scratching their heads.

A Democrat from North Dakota is like a Republican in most Southern states, and doubtless far more conservative than her GOPe female ilk in the Northeast.

It was like that for a long time. You'd get a Senator first elected 40 years before who only cared about farm subsidies and he'd be left behind by the rest of the Democratic Party. It's not really like that now.

Heidekamp's ACU (Conservative) ratings have been 15, 13, 16, and her ADA ratings (liberal) have been 60, 75, 70 -- numbers in that range. Not as liberal as Senators on the coasts or the big states in between, but not as conservative as things once may have been.

Trump is human. He's not a complete political attack machine. Sometimes that can get in the way of a political message. But because he's not a conventional political animal, it's hard to say if conventional political rules and expectations will apply in any given situation.

I have one of the most conservative congressmen in DC, just voted no to raising the debt ceiling. No calls needed here.

Hillary lost. So did Ted Cruz. Get over it. You butthurt Trump-bashers indulging your #NeverTrump impulses are doing nothing besides aiding and abetting the Enemy.

You couldn't come up with a better President if your life depended on it.

There are plenty of places you can go to cry over spilt milk. This President will never be perfect enough to satisfy your ilk, but why don't you tell me what other President would have pulled us out of the Paris Climate Agreement, or who would have done so much already to curb illegal immigration and introduce extreme vetting even for legal immigration.

All you clowns know how to do is second guess, wring your hands, and basically wax hysterical every time the President deviates from your rigid dictates.

There is no fence straddling in this fight. You're either with the President, or you're with the Swamp.

The Uniparty Establishment is providing ample criticism of the President, to which is added the butthurt #NeverTrump crowd.

If you're not in one of those two camps, then you should be supporting this President enthusiastically—not for what he says he'll do, but for what he has already done.

Your bitterness is palpable, and comical. Shumer and Pelosi are grinning through their teeth? Do you need a fainting couch? Methinks any grinning they are doing will be short-lived.

How’s that working out for you?

Non sequitur...

Your response is word salad. Trump gave Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer a blank check to raise the debt ceiling. Period. No spending cuts...no reforms nothing. No chess playing to the 99nth dimension of infinity involved. The fact that he through Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell under the bus in favor of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer seems to delight the folks on Free Republic now. ..but he not only through those two under bus he tossed the Freedom Caucus...Mike Lee...Ted Cruz...everyone who’s been fighting for limited government for years. You can rationalize it all you want. This wasn’t Art of the deal. This was art of the kneel.

This wasn’t Art of the deal. This was art of the kneel.

Guess you should give up on the President then, eh?

This is a pro-Trump site. If your only purpose is to antagonize and attack morale—your #NeverTrump bitterness is better expressed elsewhere.

President Trump is going to make mistakes, and he's going to be called out when he does. But under no circumstances should smart ass armchair generals indulge their impulses to stir up trouble by antagonizing those who are loyal to this President.

None of that President's mistakes excuses overt antagonism or ill will from malcontents. Trump is a blessing to this country, and those who think otherwise are fools.

Sorry if the President did something of which you didn't approve, but snot-nosed reactions to it only expose #NeverTrumpers for precisely who they are.

You're right. This is a pro-Trump site, with plenty of "fan boys".

As I've pointed out, there is more than enough b!itching, hand-wringing, moaning, and groaning about each and every misstep the President makes, without the need of butthurt divisive clowns to pile on.

This President has earned his supporters' loyalty a hundred times over in the past two years, and anyone who is too ignorant to understand that is simply a petty whiner.

If you don't think this President deserves our loyalty—not blind loyalty, but damn sure the benefit of the doiubt—you're in the wrong community. And if you want to go around antagonizing fans of this President, you're similarly in the wrong community. So behave yourself, or face the consequences. We don't go in for self-indulgent #NeverTrump stupidity around here. There are plenty of sites where you can wallow in such foolishness, but I daresay this isn't one of them...

Who could think of Paul Ryan as a Republican in the strict definition?
In Trump’s world it comes down to individual people not labels just like in mine.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Dog and Pony show entertains and sucks people in.

Meanwhile deals are being cut, under the table, where virtually NO ONE is watching.

Trump is actually out politicking the politicians.

P.S: No one even cares about Paul Ryan, he has become irrelevant, like all of the ‘never Trumpeters.’Dinosaurs all, soon to become extinct.

Your response lacks intellectual rigor but is scored high on histrionics. A 3 month extension for the aid package without dithering and an opportunity to show the boob brothers that they have a downside risk when they act like donkeys instead of Conservatives. America was well served by a sharp slap applied to those two. I hope they are voted out as leaders by more patriotic Congress folks who are willing to disappoint their Globalist donors and focus on America’s best interests.

How far have your heroes Cruz and Lee actually propelled the fight for limited GV”t? Not one inch. I despise both, for their two faced self aggrandizement and self characterization as ideologically pure.

You’ve been taken up with Kabuki theatre while President Trump has changed the rules of the game by thinking outside the box. This is the Art of War and POTUS will be ruthless as needed to fulfill his promises and MAGA. The way may be windy and not for the faint of heart. Get ready, there is a strong wind coming.

The old ways have not worked and were leading us to the cesspit that is Sweden. That was the course Mike Lee & Ted Cruz were pretending to abhor, dancing to distract Americans while stuffing their pockets with Globalist cash, making no real move unless they knew it would be doomed to fail, note the Cruz vote for TPA, and subsequent Kabuki chorus.
