NFL Ratings Down Big on Opening Night Amid Renewed Anthem Protests
Breitbart ^ | August 8, 2017 | Dylan Gwinn

The NFL opened its 2017 season Thursday night, in much the same way that it played out the 2016 season. The game featured the team that won the final game of the year last season, the game was high-scoring with plenty of offense, the game featured an anthem protest, and the league’s ratings went down. The game between the Chiefs and the Patriots drew a 14.6 overnight rating on NBC. That rating is down nearly two full points from last year’s 16.5 number for the Panthers-Broncos opener, and more than three points down from the Steelers-Patriots opener in 2015.

Why, the steep decline?

While the ratings have clearly trended down for a number of seasons, last night’s game did feature an anthem protest from Chiefs cornerback Marcus Peters, and it’s entirely likely that many tuned-out after seeing that:

If people in the stands got up and walked out, the NFL would take note even faster....

Same here. College football only. And the timing is bad news for NFL games as the college season provides an option to not watch petulant overpaid behemoths disrespecting the national anthem.

That’s asking a lot from people who have been drinking for hours before hand.

The NFL should keep the animals in the locker room until after the Anthem is funished. Then let then out through the tunnel. That works for me.

I don’t watch much football with all the really stupid commercials. It’s really boring.

"can an owner even do such a thing?"

Can an employer walk an employee off the premises? Yes.

Football is being destroyed. Punks disrespecting the flag, excessive commercials, suspensions mean nothing, late starts for games on Mondays and Thursdays, players dancing in the end zone, and on and on.

Too late. Too many commercials take the games past midnight. Why start watching?

Not to worry!
Viewership will increase once players do a few more games wearing pink ribbons and socks...yeah, that’s the ticket.

Sarcasm off , boycott on.

I would like to see the NFL flourish as a sport sans politics.

In order for that to happen, its current version must be destroyed to create a pure sport from the ashes.

Boycott the NFL, to save the NFL.

To disrupt the system, we must disrupt our lives.

Me too. Love College football until they screw it up. Swore off NFL a few years ago. Saw it was heading into the toilet and lost interest in watching overpaid asshats. Now those same asshats don’t even respect the very people that got them rich.

I would think as the sponsor of the event, they would be able to eject anyone they deem to be making trouble.

Even if it isn’t legal, eject the mook and let the other team fight it out in court months or years later.

Sometime tomorrow Drudge will have the preliminary ratings for today and we will see if the decline continues and builds on what happened in the opening game Thursday night. If it’s as bad as that 12% decline there will be panic in the NFL and on Madison Avenue. Can’t wait to see the overnights tomorrow.
