Hurricane Irma – a Category 5 hurricane – is barreling closer towards Florida’s southern coast. But before it makes landfall this weekend, the storm has been pummeling the Caribbean with gale-force winds, sheets of rain and widespread destruction.

One of the causalities has been President Donald Trump’s vacation home, Le Chateau des Palmiers on the island of St. Martin.

It will be repaired, built even better.

And Mexico will pay for it.

The Clintons and the Obamas went to Washington D.C. and then they made their money.

Donald Trump made his money and then he went to Washington D.C.

Unlike the Grifters, President Trump will leave Washington D.C. much poorer than when he arrived.

I think Trump’s property may have fared better than Branson’s island:

“the doors and windows outside of the wine cellar where Branson and his team sought shelter had flown 40 feet away.”

Les Palmiers was built by the CEO of Conseco Insurance before he was convicted of fraud. Just to the right of Palmiers was Plum Beach Retreat which rented for about $2,000 a week. We stayed there several years with friends.

Sometimes it is good to understand that there are some people who are really rich.

St Martin was a beautiful place. Gourmet capital of the Caribbean. I hope it comes back more beautiful than ever.

Exactly. I had no idea what hearing something like that would be like.

She said the agent started out saying, “ I have good news.” Then, it turned into, “You got the ‘maximum’... you get 25house The woman said she was so stunned she couldn’t speak and she had to hand the phone off to her husband.

I know her house was valued at a million dollars, but I felt sorry for her. Her shock was palpable. Who is to say that they can do a million dollar home, twice, for $250,000 dollars.

Naturally, one wonders to those with so much less, if 25% is “maximum”. I mean the million dollar home owner, surely, could afford catastrophic-occurance insurance.

Thanks. Took me a few minutes to get by the story on the upper right of the page about a pretty woman somewhere running naked in the street. In any case, I did eventually find what you were referring to...

Can't say I give a crap about Oprah's place, or her.

Hurricane Irma has destroyed homes and islands owned by the world's rich and powerful

It’s surrounded by a stout, high wall with stacked loose boulders like a jetty in front of the wall on the beach, the house has a raised foundation that looks to be a good eight to ten feet high at least. I assume both seawall and house are constructed of stacked, quarried coquina as that is the traditional colonial-era building material for buildings of high quality down there, coquina is a sort of seashell limestone. If it had good storm shutters and I don’t doubt that it did, there is every chance that the property made it through battered but still standing. But, there’s also the chance that it got hit full force with massive surge and Cat 4-5 wind and little is left regardless of how well it was built, which we’ll hear about endlessly if that did occur. If the story dies, the house is fine.

I’m not looking forward to rebuilding in Florida after Hurricane Irma. Rebuilding in the Caribbean will be even more difficult.

He doesn’t need insurance.

Seriously, why would you pay out insurance when you can just write a check for any repairs?

When I pay off a car loan, collision coverage gets cancelled, usually the same day.

“I am sure he has insurance.”

NOT likely.

Rush Limbaugh does not carry hurricane insurance in his home — he said the insurance cost $200,000 per year with a $250,000 deductible.

In 10 years you pay $2,000,000 to the insurance company - so you self insure.

God bless President Trump.

He gives his salary away and just gave $1,000,000 to help Harvey victims.
