Looks like Puerto Rico is going to escape the serious weather. But they will point to some tree on a car (from last week) and beg for a handout. But in all fairness, that’s exactly what the West Virginian’s did after Sandy. It was a snowstorm for some of them, the kind of thing they get every winter. But they got the disaster money anyway.
That should increase Irma’s strength a bit. :-(

What I’m seeing is not all that dire. The boats are still in the basin and most are still afloat. That is not especially heavy damage from a hurricane.
Obviously hard to be critical of people caught up in this but... Just once, would somebody, if you’re going to record and post, please turn the damn phone sideways!

LOL after using a still camera for decades I finally got a video camera and turned it sideways for landscapes.
Bad news for Miami.....
It seems unlikely that anyone survived anyway.

The CME won’t hit for 2 or 3 days, but the ionishpere pops at the speed of light. I was trying to listen in on the Florida Phone Traffic net at 3.940 Mgz and the interference was terrible. They meet on air every morning at 6:55 am and pass radiograms. I’m mobile and usually can spot some cheap Chinese lighting at gas stations causing the interference and drive away from it, but not this AM. It was everywhere I drove. Now I know it was this flare and a radio blackout.
Half the time I do that, the images end up upside down!
Looks like something inspired by Van Gogh.
