Hurricane Irma Live Thread
NHC/NOAA ^ | NHC/NOAA | NHC/NOAA

Posted on 09/04/2017 2:02:19 PM PDT by NautiNurse

While thoughts and prayers are with our Texas FRiends and neighbors, we are at the peak of the Atlantic Tropical Storm season. Hurricane Irma continues its trek from Cape Verde across the pond and toward the Hebert Box (see below). People with interests in the Southeastern U.S. and Gulf of Mexico should be alert to the forecast path updates for this powerful storm. It is important to note that the average NHC track errors are about 175 and 225 statute miles at days 4 and 5, respectively.

Hurricane Irma originally had a small wind field. In the past 24 hours, however, the wind field has expanded with hurriance force winds up to 40 miles from the center, and tropical storm force winds up to 140 miles from the storm center.

FL Governor Rick Scott reminds Floridians: Families should take time today to make sure you have a disaster plan and fully-stocked Disaster Supply Kit. Florida residents from West Palm Beach to Tampa Bay are heeding the alert. Store shelves are emptying of bottled water.

Hurricane watches are now up from Jupiter through the Fla Keys and to Bonita Beach and all points in between.

I’m stealing that line if it’s okay. It’s Brilliant and I’m a green eyed blonde bimbo, not 25 years old though.

Nope, not legally anyway. I have made that trip many times, and once I did it in for hours, but at times I was driving near 100 MPH. 5 hours is more like it.

A moment of slight levity....

I live in north-central Broward county. My sister-in-law lives in western Miami. Yesterday my wife told me that her sister needed for me to pick up a few gallons of water at the store and bring it down to her in Miami. Yeah...riiiight.

At that point I told my wife it would be just a wee bit easier if her sister filled up bottles from the same source as most bottled water...namely the tap.

My husband just informed me Pinellas County is evacuating Zone A tomorrow. He works right down the hall from BayNews9 so I assume that is how he found out. I haven’t seen it cross the ticker yet.

This buying water insanity has always amazed me. There are places where the tap water tastes bad, but not in most areas. I keep about 5 milk gallons full of water at home at all times. Refresh every 6 months. I have taken a shower using one gallon of water. Pour a little to wet your body. Rub down with wet soapy cloth. Use the rest to rinse clean. Easy.

On a separate note, here is a good site to see visuals on storm tracks at Puerto Rico and nearby islands.
