Bolton: Striking Pyongyang Less Risky Sooner Than Later

Using the military option sooner is less risky and less costly than giving North Korea more time to advance its nuclear capabilities, former U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. John Bolton told Fox News on Tuesday.

Bolton was reacting after President Donald Trump warned Kim Jong Un's regime "all options are in the table" Tuesday after North Korea fired a ballistic missile designed to carry a nuclear payload over Japan.

The former ambassador said Pyongyang's action was "as clear a demonstration as you're going to get without actually hitting American or Japanese or South Korean territory what this regime has in mind."

He added "I think there's no misunderstanding in Japan, South Korea or – I hope – in the United States how grave this threat is," pointing out South Korea conducted a live-fire drill near the demilitarized zone in response to North Korea's missile launch.

Oh, goody. Another establishment jerk sitting on the floor with John McCain, Lindsay Graham and a pile of G.I. Joe dolls, holding hands and chanting “let’s have a war! Let’s have a war!”.

No WONDER Trump won’t read anything from this guy.

I agree with Bolton. Furthermore. We should not allow any mor NK missile launches. If we can’t prevent them to get off the pad view hacking, shoot them when they light up on the launch pad.

We’ve tried the whole short, victorious war stuff in Iraq and Afghanistan. Both led to thousands of dead soldiers and trillions in expenditures. What makes you think that North Korea would prove to be any different?

Japan is going to take it out the next time.

You either accept this maniac sitting on enough nukes to kill 100+ million Americans or you don’t. In ten years he will have them sitting on subs off our coastline. If you accept this you will also get an Iranian capability just as dangerous. Do you want to “play war” with this madman now or then?

Bolton comes across as a hawk, and he probably is. However, he is very good at assessing enemy capabilities and he will tell you the absolute truth, no matter haw ugly it is.

Trump may lack that sort of advice with his current staff.

He is right about pyongyang’s intent.

Kim fired a missile just over Japan and plopped in the sea on the other side.

What was his intent?

That's where I tend to come out also.

Flying a missile over Hokkaido was an act of war against Japan. I'm sure they are royally p!ssed.

Striking first sounds attractive, except our past success rate is nil on this type op. Even with good human-int, it still took the MB on the ground to go in and take out Kadaffi. Many other examples of “first strike” failures show they are only the opening to a prolonged conflict.

If we aren’t going to invade, we need to go home and let Japan handle it.

Bolton: Striking Pyongyang Less Risky Sooner Than Later

Both Pyongyang and Teheran should've been struck years ago, but we've had a bunch of gelded metrosexuals running the show in DC.

For one thing, “nation building” in North Korea should exclusively a South Korean activity. They have a huge economy and a huge military. They should shoulder this 100%.

The US can swoop in and break a bunch of stuff to force NK to surrender (I think they will fold like a cheap suit). But after NK collapses, we should come home.

There will be deaths. But, as others have said, we’re looking at potentially 100 million dead if we wait. So let’s not wait. Any number smaller than 100 million is preferable.

Now if Japan can get it right out of the pit...it could simply fall on NK. Maybe Kim wants to think about it again.

I would agree with you if you were posting this from Seoul and couldn't leave there for ten years.

After the last 25 years of U.S. military campaigns that have turned out to be utter failures, I would have thought these corporate globalists and armchair generals like John Bolton would have zero credibility here on FreeRepublic anymore.

Because South Korean soldiers are totally different from Iraqis and Afghanistan. They will pretty much cover the ground and us will provide air support

I’m not suggesting we ignore Kim, but I reject any suggestion that we make the first strike. That’s exactly what Kim is trying to goad us into.

IMHO, Trump needs to start cutting off trade with China until THEY do something about their neighbor. They’re the only country who CAN without starting WWIII.
