Hurricane Harvey Live Thread Part II
Various ^ | 8/26/2017 | Various

Posted on 08/26/2017 4:39:50 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport TX about 10:00PM CDT Friday night. Top sustained winds were 130mph. Rockport High School sustained heavy damage when a portion of the roof collapsed. A senior housing complex collapsed. The Rockport courthouse sustained major damage with “a cargo trailer halfway in the building.” Multiple tornadoes reported in the Houston/Galveston areas. There are reports of scattered structural fires and a shooting was reported in Corpus Christi. Residents along the San Bernard River were advised to evacuate and most TX Gulf coast counties are under flash flood watches.

Many locations are under a boil-water notice. Power outages are widespread. President Donald Trump promptly granted a Disaster Declaration to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s request. More than 700 members of the Texas Army and Air National Guards, Texas State Guard and the Texas Military Department have been activated and are positioning themselves throughout the state ahead of Hurricane Harvey and its anticipated landfall later this week. Ahead of the storm, FEMA sent supplies from its warehouse in Fort Worth to a staging point at Randolph Air Force Base near San Antonio.

Per Weather Channel: Boil water advisory for customers getting city water from Corpus Christi. Boil for at least 2 minutes.

Here’s a radar map from the National Weather Service; once it loads, click on “Storm Total” on the left side.

https://radar.weather.gov/radar.php?rid=hgx&product=N0R&overlay=11101111&loop=no

I’m not sure how/when the storm total resets.

If the reports of major structural damage to the courthouse, high school and senior center are accurate, then it’s not surprising that the cell towers were blown down.

Text data, looks like it only gets updated daily. Work a quick look.

That is a GREAT resource. Once you get the precipitation map settings loaded, there is another box below for "Precipitation Analysis" which pops an overlay of Hurricane Harvey location.

Thank you!

Rains have really picked up in Georgetown, north of Austin. Two main dangers here - if your house is in a flood prone area, get out. If you have to drive, NEVER drive into standing or flowing water. The Hill Country is notorious for flash flooding, and this could be one of the worst events of such ever.

So far only .55 of rain as of 7am outside of New Braunfels (about 20 miles north of San Antonio). Looks like there could be rain for a while but so far it's pretty gentle, not like the frog stranglers we can get here. We expect the roads to flood at some point but they do that 3-4 times a year. Just as long as we don't lose power....

Lots of slack jawed pups on TV gasping at the rain forecasts and how they've never heard of such amounts. Uh, in 1979 slow moving Claudette dropped 45 inches on Alvin in 24 hours. Actually the bulk of that fell in about 10 hours.

Prayers for those on the Gulf.

One FReeper said he asked his neighbors to shoot looters before he evacuated. Said he would replace their ammo.

:o)

Here’s one of the good ones I was looking for early. NWS and NOAA are just a maze sometimes, when it comes to finding stuff.

National Weather Service Precipitation Map
http://www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge2/RFC_Precip/

You’ll have to pan and zoom and then take a screen shot to get something post-able, but it’s nice map data. This map is radar-derived estimates with some correction for radar-vs-measured data at weather stations.

ROFL! I actually heard CNN Lemon-head ask the US Congressman (R-TX) about Joe Arpaio's pardon via phone when a Cat 4 hurricane is slamming the US Rep's family, constituents and property. The Congressman's response was beautiful!

Lemon-head was not happy, and not deterred--so he brought it up a second time...explaining that the Congressman is a Republican.

Needless to say, Lemon-head did not get an answer to his question. That will be the headline on CNN tonight, I'm sure.
