A Navy guided-missile destroyer, the USS John S. McCain, collided with a commercial vessel east of Singapore early Monday morning local time, the Navy said.
There were 10 sailors missing and five injured, the Navy said.
The collision with the merchant ship Alnic MC occurred east of the Straits of Malacca and Singapore at 6:24 a.m. Japan Standard Time, as the McCain was on its way for a routine port visit in Singapore, the Navy said.

It is appalling. I don’t know what’s going on but someone better get a handle on it quickly. TWO such similar accidents within a few weeks, and FOUR serious US Navy accidents in just a few months (including these two).

There has to be some sort of GPS spoofing that’s going on. And there’s been discussion of this of late.
I have not read the linked article.
Now, why a ship would “listen to” their GPS but NOT listen to their ship-based radar is something I have no answer for. Nor do I know if one is tied into the other.

I said they should have waited because as you see, people think it is John McCain-Senator from AZ. They would not necessarily know there was a 4th.
U.S. Navy combat ships need a thorough review ... training command needs a top to bottom review. It’s getting so bad out there civilian/commercial shipping will start making a wide swath around US Naval vessels in order to avoid collisions.
And that can’t come soon enough.
Any NAVY folks out there think there’s ANY CHANCE of maybe sloppiness on purpose to make Trump look bad by obama appointees?

This thread is about a serious naval accident in which many lives are at stake and possibly 10+ lives may be in grave danger or already lost.
Searches are underway on the open seas.
I don’t know what to suggest except.... dock’em with bombers in the air taking their patrols. God knows the state of our subs.
I volunteer to go back on active duty and stand watches until we can train up some occifers in basic seamanship and ship handling. I navigated all these waters with less nag gear without a collision or grounding. I dare some one to even try hitting my DD.

Now I wish I’d read the article I saw somewhere recently that “mistakes were made” (duuhhh) in the most recent crash..I seem to remember there were some true oddities and unorthodox actions taken??

Sounds like the Navy (and maybe the military as a whole) has some major issues to sort through with command staff.
Was actually named after his father and grandfather. Both Navy Admirals I believe.
