One Confederate monument is gone and another is slated to be taken down at Forest Hill Cemetery after Madison Mayor Paul Soglin ordered their removal.
Soglin said in a statement Thursday that he directed city staff to remove a plaque and a larger stone monument at the Confederate Rest section of the public cemetery, saying, There should be no place in our country for bigotry, hatred or violence against those who seek to unite our communities and our country.

they are breaking federal law:
Confederate soldiers, sailors, and Marines that fought in the Civil war were made U.S. Veterans by an act of Congress in in 1957, U.S. Public Law 85-425, Sec 410, Approved 23 May, 1958. This made all Confederate Army/ Navy/ Marine Veterans equal to U.S. Veterans. Additionally, under U.S. Public Law 810, Approved by the 17th Congress on 26 Feb 1929 the War Department was directed to erect headstones and recognize Confederate grave sites as U.S. War dead grave sites. Just for the record the last Confederate veteran died in 1958. When you remove a Confederate statue, monument or headstone, you are in fact, removing a statue, monument or head stone of a U.S. VETERAN.
18 U.S. Code § 1369 - Destruction of veterans memorials (a) Whoever, in a circumstance described in subsection (b), willfully injures or destroys, or attempts to injure or destroy, any structure, plaque, statue, or other monument on public property commemorating the service of any person or persons in the armed forces of the United States shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 10 years, or both. (b) A circumstance described in this subsection is that (1) in committing the offense described in subsection (a), the defendant travels or causes another to travel in interstate or foreign commerce, or uses the mail or an instrumentality of interstate or foreign commerce; or (2) the structure, plaque, statue, or other monument described in subsection (a) is located on property owned by, or under the jurisdiction of, the Federal Government.
I think I love you!!! I have been posting this record all over the place hoping someone else would join in. America is a country of LAWS...and more and more they are ignored.
What an idiot. Says “.. no place in our country for bigotry, hatred or violence against those who seek to unite our communities and our country. Really, BLM, Antifa seek to unite our country. Best thing you can say about this mayor is he is brainless.
Communists’ lust for revisionism knows no bounds.
This is book-burning, folks, taking on a somewhat different character; but it is most definitely book-burning.
I first saw it yesterday or the day before. Thanks for first posting it. At some point the feds and the Veteran division of the govt need to step in.

The 140 confederate dead are POWs who died in Camp Randall, buried there
So this triggers blm?
This is disrespect of the dead who died in Union custody.
What next? Desecrate their graves?
The “bigotry, hatred and violence” is all coming from the protestors.

And this
It seems like the VA needs to step up with the NPS and protect the memorials of all US veterans
“...So this triggers BLM...”
It’s easy to trigger psychotics.
“...The 140 confederate dead are POWs ...”
They’re also designated as US Veterans, and it is a FELONY to desecrate their resting place. Time for Federal law enforcement to get involved.

Those confederate memorials could be moved to the union plot, which is federally owned
The VA and NPS need to git it done and stop the lawless anarchy
It means that Free Speech is dead in this Country.
When he uses the word “violence”, he infers that that only the people expressing their views because they have the Right to Free Speech are violent. The response by people who disagree with them is fine and dandy.
Of course, if an approved Liberal Group such as BLM Protests and the People who disagree with them get violent, the rules are reversed.
To logically be followed sometime thereafter by asset forfeiture of all with the surname Madison.
If you want to learn the real history of Paul Soglin, read “They Marched Into Sunlight”, by David Maraniss.
Soglin is a central figure in the book, and a despicable human being.
Trump needs to start knocking some heads together, and I hope he starts with Soglin.
I read where, when the POWs arrived, the towns people were appalled by there poor condition of the Rebs. In response, they helped with food and care. No doubt many of those interned here were the recipients of that care.
Odd that during the height of a brutal war, those on the “other” side had so much more compassion than the Anti-fa lib mayor and citizens have now, 150 years later, when north and south live in peace.
Sadly a bunch of people in Atlanta would help.
I have read he that Lee said he was glad that slavery had ended after the war. He opposed secession and only joined the confederate army out of loyalty to his state, Virginia.
Soggy doesn’t see the irony in his statement. Sad.
They need to dig up the bodies there, too, lest they continue to pollute the soil.
