DOJ Demands Files On Anti-Trump Activists, And A Web Hosting Company Resists

At the intersection where protections against unreasonable search and seizure meet the rights to free speech and association, there is now a web hosting company called DreamHost.

The California-based company is resisting a Department of Justice warrant that demands it hand over all files related to DisruptJ20.org, a website created by one of its customers to plan and announce actions intended to interrupt President Trump's inauguration.

Inauguration Day protests in Washington, D.C., turned violent; 230 people were arrested and charged with felony rioting.

In gathering evidence for the nearly 200 still-open cases in D.C. court, the Justice Department issued a warrant that DreamHost says is so broad it would require handing over the logs of 1.3 million visits to the website.

Imagine the gold mine of antifa data the DOJ could get if it is successful with this warrant.

And remember, this is not a government fishing expedition against a website that is merely expressing dissenting views.

This DOJ warrant is pursuant to almost 200 ongoing prosecutions of Inauguration Day rioters.

I thought those on the left wanted thugs engaged in violent riots to be stopped. Oh, right, it’s only their people who commit violent crimes; of course they protect criminals.

According to the article, their advice to other resistance websites is to not keep server logs.

But I think it’s too late for them. LOL

This is the DC US Attorney pursuing these charges and this warrant.

These are FEDERAL charges.

There was supposed to be a hearing today on DreamHost’s challenge to the warrant.

The DOJ won’t comment on this case except through court proceedings.

We wouldn’t know anything about this if DreamHost hadn’t blogged about their SJW resistance to the warrant.

Maybe DreamHost’s silence on today’s hearing speaks volumes!

Just imagine all of the antifa names DOJ could get.

I’m sure most of the antifa a-holes that we saw last weekend in Charlottesville are probably on this website.

They can wear their masks and swing their bats, but the DOJ will track them all down with this data!

I really don’t think it’s much different than turning over surveillance tapes when a robbery takes place. Of course innocent people are on those tapes, but the police aren’t after them. The police are only after those who committed the robbery.

It should be fairly straightforward to sort out the Antifa terrorists from innocent visitors to the site (if there are any).

That sounds reasonable.

I would die for a transcript of the arguments in the hearing today!

And thanks for your proven sane posts on the Ebola threads of yesteryear!

Imagine the backlash if a computer company was unwilling to give up the names of those frequenting a neonazi website to coordinate staging a violent riot.
