As with the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution, the cause is simple. A future almost everyone believed in didn’t come true. As with the events in China, that which was designed to make things better made them worse. Outcomes were the reverse of those promised.
It’s not just that the white liberal and median “white person of good will” imaginary future didn’t come true. Their imaginary future has been crushed by reality.
