Fremont's statue of communist leader Vladimir Lenin has once again come under fire.
On Wednesday afternoon, a small group had gathered in front of the monument in Fremont calling for its removal. The group was seemingly led by Jack Posobiec, a pro-Donald Trump conspiracy theorist and self-described online "alt-right" activist. Posobiec Periscoped part of the gathering on Twitter.
The statue's origin story is well documented.(snip)The statue was toppled in 1989 after the Velvet Revolution toppled communism in Czechoslovakia, and that's when Lewis Carpenter found it in a scrapyard. The English teacher from Issaquah then mortgaged his house to purchase and transport the statue to Washington in 1993 before Carpenter's death in 1994.
Issaquah debated displaying the statue before eventually deciding against it, and Carpenter's family planned to sell it to a Fremont foundry to melt it down, but Seattle sculptor Peter Bevis instead found a place to display the statue in Fremont until the family found a buyer.(snip)
Its arrival in Seattle met with controversy.
"This is highly inappropriate in this community," artist Frederick Edelblut told SeattlePI shortly after its unveiling. "It's not a piece of art. It's a disgrace, a a symbol of denigration, and a symbol of millions of people who have died in Eastern Europe from communist domination."
Bevis disagreed, contending that "art outlives politics," which echoes a sentiment shared on Fremont's official website.
"This sculpture is placed here in the Artist's Republic of Fremont, as a symbol of an artistic spirit that outlasts regimes and ideologies, and as tangible proof that art does outlive politics," it reads.
(snip)The statue, which sports a $250,000 price tag and is still awaiting for a buyer, is often vandalized with graffiti and red paint meant to look like blood.

Knew this was coming. The irony is deliciously thick that those that support this statue are the same useful idiots Lenin spoke about. Seattle is full of them.
Where these people are headed a statue of Mao Zedong would be more appropriate ...
Lenin was a piker, Stalin got 69 million, Mao 76 million
With the cultural commies trying to topple the statue of Robert E Lee, this action to get rid of Lenin's statue is meged knit meged or measure for measure as members of my tribe (disliked by the alt right btw...) would say.
Yeah but he killed the right people, those opposed to communism. So that was justified in the modern leftists mind..
Go for the Trifecta—the guy who started it all—Karl Marx.
He can count Pol Pot’s murdered on his list.
I’m thinking...if someone were to “borrow” a wrecker, back the wrecker up to the statue, wrap a few turns of the hook/line around it...put the truck in “Drive”...make a quick exit.
(Try not to hurt the wrecker because it’s “borrowed”.)
Yoko is deeply saddened..
Actually Marx did not order anyone’s death and likely would have been appalled to see what others did with his philosophy - unlike the others who did directly cause millions to be murdered in the name of Socialism, which, BTW, was not a new idea, just the Communist, Maoist, Fascist, and Nazi brands were new varieties of the same disease.
I’m surprised Seattle doesn’t have the Saddam statue Iraqis took down in Baghdad! Or do they?
Plant/paint a Confederate flag on it and see if "a symbol of an artistic spirit that outlasts regimes and ideologies, and as tangible proof that art does outlive politics" still resonates.
