A North Texas man wants to rename sections of two local freeways that bear the name of a past Democrat Dallas mayor who was a prominent member of the Ku Klux Klan. He kickstarted a campaign to sway city officials into renaming the roadways to honor former President Barack Obama. “African Americans, Hispanics, everyone, whites, should be insulted that we have a freeway named after a former Klansman,” said James Dunn, a former teacher and black activist, according to CBS DFW. He started an online petition this week, reportedly, in response to the recent violence that broke out in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Certain portions of I-30 and I-35 in Dallas bear the name of Klansman R.L. Thornton, a Dallas banker and successful businessman who served as the city’s mayor from 1953 to 1961. According to the Texas Historical Association (TSHA) Thornton was also “a Democrat, a Mason, and a Methodist.”

Why hasn’t Trump called the Libs on Byrd and all his stuff in WV? Byrd Highway, statue, buildings, I77 is littered with Byrd signs.
It’s going to get confusing when we and up with every street, road, avenue, alley, lane, highway....named Martin Luther King.
I think that might be the only thing acceptable to them.

Most of West Virginia is named after Bird. I’m okay with changing the names. How about Mockingbird Highway or Lady Bird Lane?

Maybe we should just go back to streets being called by number or letter ... 1st, Ave A., Main. Or maybe state landmarks. Anything but people’s names. That way no one will get their feelings hurt.

As far as renaming the many ‘Byrd’ things - easy. Vote on it. The people in those cities and States should have a say. It’s a free country...FREE for liberal elites AND FREE for us. They have a voice. We have a voice.
