DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- Durham County Sheriff Mike Andrews said Tuesday his office will seek charges against protestors who pulled down a Confederate statue outside the old courthouse Monday evening.
In a statement, Sheriff Andrews said he was grateful that no one was hurt and that county leaders decided to act with restraint towards the demonstrators.
"Collectively, we decided that restraint and public safety would be our priority. As the Sheriff, I am not blind to the offensive conduct of some demonstrators nor will I ignore their criminal conduct. With the help of video captured at the scene, my investigators are working to identify those responsible for the removal and vandalism of the statue," he said.

Or that giant fist statute in Detroit.
WTF were the Cops at?!!
From the article:
“Because this incident occurred on county property, where county law enforcement officials were staffed, no arrests were made by DPD [Durham Police Dept.] officers,” the department said in a statement.
***********
Unbelievable! So if a car on county property is being broken into, a Durham police officer would do nothing?
This crowd was the same people, ideology-wise, that tried to lynch the three lacrosse players 11 years ago.
This was a conspiracy. Soros (or the like) funded leftist groups were on the scene and even quoted in the news articles about this. This was not a random street mob gathering and should not be investigated as such.
Pilots are urged to define their own private "minimums" - weather they will not launch into, runways so short they will not personally try to land at, etc. even though they could legally justify doing so. In this case, perhaps the answer is to define those limits and then hold onto them regardless of the political atmosphere. Those who will stand for anything find they stand for nothing.
In the city I work in, the voter turn out for council elections is 12%. You’re statement couldn’t be more true. The easiest way to get re-elected is just to cater to the fire and police depts...they (and their families) all vote, and are a huge voting block.
Here Sheriff, I think that is the word you were looking for.
And now the same DemocRATS are tearing them down.
Its almost as if they want to re-write their own history...
The maximum penalty for pulling down the statue, which is a class 1 misdeameanor, is $500 fine and 24 hours of community service.
All the cops got to go home safe last night.
the word county having been introduced at the Norman Conquest of England.
from Latin ‘comitatus’, for which one translation is ‘jurisdiction of a count’...which itself derived from Latin ‘comes’...
” As the Sheriff, I am not blind to the offensive conduct of some demonstrators nor will I ignore their criminal conduct. With the help of video captured at the scene, my investigators are working to identify those responsible for the removal and vandalism of the statue”
So I can make sure a jury takes their cellphones for a week as punishment.
Well, that’s the most important thing. Law and order have to come second.

“In a statement, Sheriff Andrews said he was grateful that no one was hurt and that county leaders decided to act with restraint towards the demonstrators”
What a useless pussy. I would be grateful if these bastards had been crushed to death.
Well, Shire Reeve, if you’d arrested them as they committed the crime, you wouldn’t have to go looking for them.
1000 HOURS OF COMMUNITY WORK, polishing the statue every day for a year once it is replaced.
Oh, you beat me to it...it pays for me to read the comments before posting.
“I’m wondering if citizens of the jurisdictions where these statues are have any grounds to sue”
I don’t know about suing but they can vote the same limp wristed liberals back in.
