The tradeoff is either accept the proximate threat of being injured by a drunken, crazed, violent pervert or accept the probability that there will be legal repercussions for defending yourself.

I have six younger sisters and one of them decided that she was a lesbian and she brought her “boyfriend” to a family get together. At some point, the “boyfriend” got aggressive with me because I told my sister that she had gotten way too skinny.
The “boyfriend” got into a fighting stance and started yelling at me but I was at least a foot and a half taller and very experienced with fighting (and have broken teeth to show for it) so I warned her/it that if she started a fight, I’d reserve a place in the gutter for her.
She backed off, shouted a string of profanities and left. Didn’t have fight but I was ready if she/it wanted to push the charade further.
If the attacker is female, YUP! Plus, if the attacker is les or trans, get ready for the "Hate Crime" acusation. You may escape conviction or even the charge, but it's gonna cost you time in jail, time in court and/or money. It's just the way it is.

Now that Oak Lawn has gentrified, Bishop Arts is the hot area for folks of that persuasion. The city even took the money designated to provide transit to Love Field and built a battery powered trolley to take ‘them’ downtown to work.

Nope. You are geographically confused. The Arts district is sandwiched between Woodall Rogers and Downtown, along Ross Avenue. Melds into Midtown along Klyde Warren and lower McKinney.
Bishop Arts is across the river from Downtown in North Oak Cliff.
And don't forget the concentration of 'them' between Turtle Creek and Love Field south of Highland Park.
Easy answer to that one. The sheriff is a dyke, the DA is a black female, and all the judges are Democrats. You certainly don't want to waltz into court with a straight white male lawyer.
