It takes a lot of courage to say they heard the voice of God and then do good. Usually people say God told them to hurt someone, which in my opinion is not God but Satan. To say you heard God speaking to you takes courage knowing that you will be ridiculed. However, does not the Bible have numerous scripture of God speaking to people - either directly or in dreams. Was Moses insane? Was Joseph insane to listen to God when spoken to in a dream? I believe there has been a couple times when God has spoken to me in a dream. And I clearly remember one time - shortly after my wife passed away - that I woke from a deep sleep because someone called my name. I heard it clear as a bell. So yes, I believe God does speak to us - either directly or in dreams.

Joseph(the son of Jacob) had dreams but there was not one recorded instance that God spoke to him in a direct audible voice(like...”You will go to Egypt as a slave and be imprisoned but in the end, if you continue to be my servant, you will be second in command of Egypt and will save the lives of millions from the fierce famine coming upon the Earth...oh and don’t be messing around with Potiphar’s wife”). Yet we know from the Bible that God was with him and when people came to him with their dreams including Pharoah, Joseph confidently told them the interpretations and added that is was God of his fathers that gives the interpretations. Pharoah himself acknowledged the Spirit that was in Joseph(and probably earned the Pharoah a place in heaven by doing so) and even exercised faith in the wisdom of God that was in Joseph by appointing Joseph to such a high position. Sure enough the famines came, just as the interpretations of Pharoah’s dreams by Joseph had predicted; but because of Pharoah’s own faith in the God that was in Joseph, by acting as he did with Joseph...Egypt was saved!(and so was most likely Pharoah, spiritually as well!).

It would be interesting for those who understand Egyptian hieroglyphics, to look for a pattern change in which the Egyptian peoples became more federalized and taxes/economic policies became centralized.(the Bible says the pre-Famine ingathering foods/taxes which continued after the famine and the tying of the lands into the Pharoanic systems began with Joseph) One could pinpoint the timing of Joseph and the Pharoah in charge by looking for an abrupt change in the economics and taxing systems of the peoples of Egypt by means of records of the period.
