New White House chief of staff John Kelly, in one of his first acts in his new post, called Attorney General Jeff Sessions to reassure him that his position was safe despite the recent onslaught of criticism he has taken from President Donald Trump.
Kelly called Sessions on Saturday to stress that the White House was supportive of his work and wanted him to continue his job, according to two people familiar with the call. The people demanded anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about a private conversation. Kelly, who was appointed to the post the day before, described the president as still miffed at Sessions but did not plan to fire him or hope he would resign.
Trump has seethed at Sessions, his one-time close ally, since the attorney general recused himself from the probe into Russia’s meddling into the 2016 election. The president viewed that decision as disloyal — the most grievous sin in Trump’s orbit.
That simmering anger burst to the surface last week. In an unprecedented display of a president publicly criticizing a sitting member of his own Cabinet, Trump unleashed repeated attacks via Twitter.

Just how many people are involved in a phone call, anyway? How would these people expect to retain anonymity? Is there a huge audience for these phone calls, such that not one but multiple people can leak the details without fear of being identified simply for having been present? Good grief. The MSM is stupid and thinks we're even more stupid.
Fake news, but even if true, the identities of the leakers shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Now this is what I don't understand...
How many people are in the room when these calls take place? There must be thousands for how difficult it is to weed out the leakers. I mean, if Kelly is on the phone, and there's two other people in the room, I would think he could figure it out pretty quick. Same on the Sessions side. And if neither side is leaking, then the calls are being eavesdropped on by our spy agencies which seems like it would be news enough by itself.
How come conversations by VP Pence are never leaked?

Who the hell is privy to a private phone call between the WH Chief of Staff and the AG?????? Unless this is a leak ordered by Kelly or Sessions (which would be strange and worrisome), it is beyond bizarre that there are TWO anonymous leakers privy to a weekend call between Kelly and Sessions.
Our govt is just a Swiss cheese mess of holes and leaks, which is not only extremely bad operationally but also looks horrible to the country and the world.

The entire supposed pretext of this “conversation” strikes me as implausible because Kelly is in no position to make such assurances.

It’s a game of telephone. Kelly obviously told advisors at the WH he was making the call. Then Sessions told his people. Soon dozens of people will know this and someone blabbed to the press. It’s not rocket science.
My guess is someone on Sessions side at DOJ leaked this. It is in Sessions interests to push back hard to keep his job. He’s kind of got Trump in a bad spot because he has lots of friends in the Senate who not confirm anyone Trump likes to replace Sessions with and he’ll be left with Rosenstein acting indefinitely. If he fires Rosenstein too, that will cause major political problems and the Senate will pass a law to appoint Mueller as Independent Counsel and the blowback will cripple any agenda he wants to pass Congress.
Trump is boxed in and it’s his own damn fault. He never should have fired Comey if he didn’t have a clear communications strategy. Telling Lester Holt he did it because of Russia created the Mueller problem. He’s undisciplined and it is a problem in the Swamp where the alligators will bite your head off on any little mistake.
I too am starting to wonder if Trump is playing 3D chess or playing us. Apparently Kelly and POTUS ok with McMaster tossing out all Bannon’s people, doesn’t sit well.
Guess we should have seen this coming, Trump LOVES Generals, not so much common sense when it comes to his guys. Be a damn shame if he lets the generals run Bannon out, beginning of the end.
