“It’s the only viable alternative we have to solve the economic situation" - BS. There are many ways to solve the economic situation. If government gets out of the way of any legitimate business.

I think Puerto Rico is confusing itself with Jamaica. Tourists looking for ganja are already going to the island 400 miles to the left.

I don’t understand why people think pot is the solution to everything... its a weird kind of religion. Whatever you’ve got, pot is the answer.

Great idea. Create a govt protected monopoly to deliver funds into your election campaigns and at the same time create a bunch of new jobs in the law enforcement industry. A real win-win situation - for the politicos and their cronies and their hangers-on that is. As to the new jobs growing marijuana? Doubtful. They were growing weed before the law, different "theys" (the politically connected kind) are growing weed after the law - jobs have just moved around a bit.

If this is what is considered their "only viable alternative" to solving the economic situation then they really need to step out of the way and let the collapse happen so the real (as in non-crony) economy can find a way to produce real jobs and real (non-crony) wealth.

Yep, that’ll fix it, all the failed states jumping on the legalized pot bandwagon. It worked out so well with casinos.

Legal pot to create jobs? I’ll bet many new tokers will lose their jobs due to disinterest.

Failed societies rely on legalized lotteries, gambling, prostitution, and drugs for their economic engine.

Basing your economy on growing drugs is the key to economic prosperity. Just ask Afghanistan.

Legalized hallucinogenic drugs are about as viable an alternative to solving an economic crisis as using gasoline to put out a house fire.

Try hanging murderers & rapists after short trials.
Try sending major lawbreakers far away from their homeboys to hard labor with no appeal or parole.
Try giving minor lawbreakers a dozen lashes and a boot out the door instead of a 6 month ordeal in court and county lockup that doesn’t deter sh!t and costs an arm and a leg.
Try cutting taxes and regulations.
Try enforcing your nation’s borders.
Try requiring implantable birth control for those on welfare and under 40.
Try offering cash incentives for those below the poverty line to get their tubes tied.
Try treating flag burning and other open displays of treason as the lethal threats to national security they are.

There are literally HUNDREDS of things to try before considering this lunacy as a ‘solution’.

So the economic “solution” is for workers to waste effort and resources on growing and selling a drug that’s suitable primarily for selling to others to waste THEIR money on so that they can demotivate themselves into drug-induced stupors in lieu of productive work.

yeah, that’s gonna solve all their economic problems!

Idjits!

The United States should confer independence on Puerto Rico and cut them loose. I can see no net benefit to the Nation from having this struggling outpost in territorial status.

And statehood should be out of the question. I know there is a law that gives Puerto Rico the option, if they vote for it. That law should be repealed.
