Hackers competing in a contest at a Las Vegas convention breached the security of several voting machines, pointing to glaring deficiencies in the security of US elections.
Tech minds at the annual "DEF CON" in Las Vegas were given physical voting machines and remote access, with the instructions of gaining access to the software.According to a Register report, within minutes, hackers exposed glaring physical and software vulnerabilities across multiple U.S. voting machine companies' products.
Some devices were found to have physical ports that could be used to attach devices containing malicious software. Others had insecure Wi-Fi connections, or were running outdated software with security vulnerabilities like Windows XP.

During the 2016 election, Homeland Security offered their help to states to secure their networks. Most states took them up on it. At that time, it was believed that several voter registration lists had been hacked, not the machines themselves. But the apparent ease with which hackers broke into the machines should be a wake up call to states to better secure the vote.

The Rats still don't see a problem ...
But, but only Russia can hack our machines.
Vote early, vote often.
Post the names of the companies that produced the vulnerable voting machines.
More than likely, it is Soro’s company...
Good idea.
I was just at Blackhat which runs just before DefCon.
I met one really smart guy who was a hard core Lefty who was convinced Russia hacked our elections.
I wanted to ask him how they got access to Podesta’s email account but didn’t want to listen to Comedy Channel nonsense.
Smart doesn’t always equate to being objective.
Here are the keys to the house we will be out of town for 2 weeks. Oh no someone broke in.
I'm sorry how is giving somebody instructions on how the software can be accessed along with remote access to machines, simulate what is going on in polling places? I was under the impression these things were all off line and people are there supervising the the vote.
I can hack a ballot box too if nobody is around watching - I must be missing something. Almost anything online can be defeated with enough effort. Not sure what the point is other than to show we should never go to online voting and should return to hand counted ballots - the Canadians have a fine ballot counting system.
This could all be fixed easily but institutionalized voting fraud is thick in the USA.
I would propose have boxes of small ‘sealed’ envelopes, each containing a randomly generated number that falls within a specific range for that specific voting site. Each one of these numbers will have been stored online, available publicly after the election. Each voter takes one of these sealed envelopes (randomly, from reaching in a box) after they’ve gone through voter ID process) and then enters the number in the voting machine. Their actual vote and that number are thus intrinsically tied - but there is no identifier to the voter. Later, post-election, each voter can check anonymously whether their number correlated with the vote they casted. If this differs, they can identify the fraud. They would also be required to write the number on a paper ballot, so any time fraud is alleged it can be checked back against the paper ballot record.
Reading the article reveals this...
The machines were bought on Ebay, and were manufactured by major U.S. voting machine companies such as Diebold Nixorf, Sequoia Voting Systems, and Winvote.
And all this time I didn’t think they were connected to the web.
Don’t forget Texas, as well as other states, contract with Spain (and IIRC another foreign country) to read their votes. Can’t remember which states but several. I posted the info a few years back and don’t want to look it up again.
The thing is what the Hillary propaganda media never mentions is Trump didn’t have to hack the election. Democrats handed him that victory long before the election even happened the second they nominated the psychotic career criminal Hillary R. Clinton. I was praying they would be stupid enough to do it and they did, and that’s when I knew Trump would be the next POTUS.
One on one, it would be possible to connect to and therefore hack an individual voting machine. It may also be vulnerable to intercepting and hacking into the transmission of the data from that machine to the central office where the votes are tallied from all over the district or state. The machine where the votes are collated after tabulation could also be hacked. There are states, districts and territories where the votes are kept separately from the grand summation of all votes, and each of these would have to be targeted separately.
All in all, a very large enterprise, but in these days of electronic vote counting still could be pulled off, especially in a vote-by-mail or vote-by-computer terminal vote collection scheme.
“Dont forget Texas, as well as other states, contract with Spain (and IIRC another foreign country) to read their votes. “
Votes are not read at the state level!
They’re not connected to the Web....I’m a poll manager here in SC for the last 8-10 years. I’m also retired IT guy. I’m satisfied our system is secure.
Electronic (paperless) voting had its first major usage in Venezuela to put its current regime in.
Now they want online voting?
