Scientists dim sunlight, suck up carbon dioxide to cool planet
Thomson Reuters Foundation News ^ | 7-26-2017 | Alister Doyle

Scientists are sucking carbon dioxide from the air with giant fans and preparing to release chemicals from a balloon to dim the sun's rays as part of a climate engineering push to cool the planet.

Backers say the risky, often expensive projects are urgently needed to find ways of meeting the goals of the Paris climate deal to curb global warming that researchers blame for causing more heatwaves, downpours and rising sea levels.

Climeworks reckons it now costs about $600 to extract a tonne of carbon dioxide from the air and the plant's full capacity due by the end of 2017 is only 900 tonnes a year. That's equivalent to the annual emissions of only 45 Americans.

And Climeworks sells the gas, at a loss, to nearby greenhouses as a fertiliser to grow tomatoes and cucumbers and has a partnership with carmaker Audi, which hopes to use carbon in greener fuels.

$.5M/yr to suck up the CO2 equivalent of 45 Americans. They don't even suck very good.

If we give them enough money maybe they can reduce the CO2 levels sufficient to cause mass extinction.
Seems to be their goal.

Rabid buffoons....carbon dioxide is absolutely necessary for plant life. Without plants,no life on earth.

So they don’t think the sun is 1st order causative but they do think that, by dimming the sun, they can control the climate. Hmmmmm.

Guess these “scientists” have never analyzed the “data” and realized that the analysis was flawed in just about every way possible: gathering techniques, analysis, and conclusions.

They sound like “scientists” from some SJW department. (You know, the ones to whom 2 + 2 = 5, for large values of 2.)

This is like digging a hole then filling it back in....at union scale on the taxpayers’ dime.

I don’t get it. Wouldn’t you take tons of CO2 out by growing grass on top of buildings?

The more I learn about the fraud that is CO2 the more that “Sequestering” sounds like a “Dig a hole to fill a hole” type government graft and waste boondoggle.

I have a better idea, Buy an old depleted underground salt mine, grow trees and put the logs into the salt mines.

BAM sequestered carbon!

After this nonsense passes.... BAM sell the wood!

I always troll enviroweenies in RL by asking them if the current level of CO2 after the industrial revolution is 300ppm what is the ideal level.

Most answer ZERO... I laugh at them and call them OMNI-Cidal morons. Then I tell them the CO2 levels during the dino era was 3-4 times HIGHER! And that if COS level go below 200ppm that plants start dying and that at below 100ppm most plant life DIES...

Then if they are still around I call them anti-science and walk away.

Let me get this straight. Climeworks removes CO2 from the air, and then sells it to be re-used. The gas undoubtedly gets right back in the air in short order.

Is this insane, or are they hoping for government grants?

Lock them and their plants in a sealed bio-dome then lower the CO2 level down to 0ppm and see how long before their either run out of oxygen or starve to death....

OK!! Everybody pay attention!
Lesson for today:
1. The sun is 1,300,000 times as big as the earth.
2. The sun is a giant nuclear furnace that controls the climates of all its planets.
3. The earth is one of the sun’s planets.
4. The earth is a speck in comparison to the size of the sun.
5. Inhabitants of the earth are less than specks.
Study Question: How do less-than-specks in congress plan to control the sun?
