Praising Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), now battling brain cancer, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer on Tuesday said McCain is thinking beyond the health care bill.
“You know, I love the man,” Schumer (D-N.Y.) told a news conference on Tuesday, after the Senate vote on a motion to proceed to a health care bill that is open to amendments.
“He's a great man," Schumer said of McCain. "We've been close friends. He even said to me when I called him this weekend, ‘Let's get immigration reform done,’ so he's thinking of the future. As you know, he and I worked on that [2013 comprehensive immigration reform] bill. And it was great to see him back, strong as he was.”

Immigration ‘reform’ has already happened. It occurred when ‘we the people’ elected DJT President because he promised us he’d ENFORCE THE LAWS ALREADY ON THE BOOKS. He’s been doing that & the result is clear - the laws work quite well when there is the WILL to enforce them.
NO more ‘deals’ of the McCain/Dem type for those outside of our country. They come in legally or not at all. “Amnesty” is a non-starter with me and I would surmise most Trump voters.
As for McCain, I will be relieved when he is no longer a Senator. The reason he’ll quit or more likely, die in office, sucks for him & his family & I wouldn’t wish what he’s got on anybody; however, when he’s no longer a Senator, the country will be better for it.
Immigration reform....how about we repeal the immigration act of 1965 and lets things settle down from there.....

McCain’s statement regarding immigration reform is consistent with his homily on the comity of the Senate yesterday. He is waxing nostalgic and is in denial of the polarization that characterizes politics today.
I can imagine a reform package that combines the priorities of both parties. But, the Democrats wouldn’t agree to it because it would be another win for Trump.
Our focus, during 2017-2018, is have to be a down payment on health care (under reconciliation where we only need a simple majority) and tax reform (under the budget process, again where we only need a simple majority).
We have a chance to get to 60 Senators next year, or at least to get close, to advance the ball on health care reform and tackle immigration reform during 2019-2020).
1st tier opportunities (states where Trump won big): MO, ND, IN, MT, WV and OH
3rd tier (close and Trump won): FL, MI, PA and WI
4th tier (close and Trump lost): ME and VA
Let’s also work on improving the composition of our caucus.

“immigration reform” is another word/phrase the Ds have redefined. They mean “amnesty”. Period. End of discussion (for now - citizenship/voting will come later if they can’t pass a path to citizenship with the amnesty).
But they don’t want say amnesty so they say “immigration reform” knowing their supporters will understand.
They hear dog whistles everywhere because their party messaging is built around dog whistles - so they assume everyone else does the same. Rs are happy to dog whistle sometimes but don’t build their messaging around it.
