WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has spoken with advisers about firing Attorney General Jeff Sessions, as he continues to rage against Sessions’ decision to recuse himself from all matters related to the Russia investigation.

The president’s anger again bubbled into public view Monday as he referred to Sessions in a tweet as “beleaguered.” Privately, Trump has speculated aloud to allies in recent days about the potential consequences of firing Sessions, according to three people who have recently spoken to the president. They demanded anonymity to discuss private conversations.

Trump often talks about making staff changes without following through, so those who have spoken with the president cautioned that a change may not be imminent or happen at all. What is clear is that Trump remains furious that the attorney general recused himself from the investigations.

You want to "Make America Great Again"? How would you do that without an AG? Nobody short of Loretta Lynch would get approved by the traitorous US Senate. You'd have leaderless swampthings at Justice running amuck. Even the miniscule amount of work DC swampthings get done would grind to a halt with a confirmation circus.

Some other points: If AG Sessions hadn't recused himself, he'd be tied up forever in hearings and defense of others in hearings about "Russia, Russia, Russia". It would've been used to stop him from accomplishing his priorities. Think of everything AG Sessions has accomplished....reversing the criminal invasion of the US, making people more aware of human trafficking, beginning to drain the swamp, being very professional and knowledgeable about the law and enforcing it. We wouldn't have President Trump without the early and total support of AG Sessions. The Trump Doctrine is better, much better, than it would've been if Sessions and Steve Miller hadn't influenced and articulated it.

It seems that President Trump is kept grounded in conservative values by Sessions and only a handful of others. How many Deplorables would be in the Administration if Sessions weren't there? Please stop this nonsense of wanting AG Sessions to go. His background in law, the judiciary, and US Senate and his "by the book" interpretation of the law are important to the success of this administration.

Giuliani cannot take the AG role because his law practice includes lobbying for foreign interests. There’s no way he’d be willing to accept the ban on such after serving as AG per Trump’s rule for serving in a cabinet position.

This is the main reason Giuliani didn’t take a cabinet slot in January.

I don’t think it was hasty at all. It was quite cunning. Not saying he doesn’t support Trump, but like a cog in the machine sitting in the swamp, he might not be too keen and pressing Hillary’s high crimes and misdemeanors.

This is theatre. He has a choice. Fire sessions or Fire Mueller. He’s playing this like Celebrity Apprentice.

You’re right AG Sessions. “You can’t always get what you want ... but if you try sometimes you just might find you get what you need”.

Trump is manipulating all this I think. He’s been several moves ahead of the swamp and the distractive media. He dominates the news cycle 24/7/365, stepping off stage for a bit for truly momentous events.

Well Sessions’ career is now ruined if he quits. I’m not defending him, but that’s probably his thought process.

Sucks he made such a boneheaded decision, but it’s imperiled Trump’s presidency. I’m sure he thought he’d mollify the media by recusing, but you can’t appease jackals. He just didn’t have a full grasp on the media’s commitment to destroying Trump but should have. I hate that a good man made a serious lapse in judgement, but he needs to quit so that the new AG can broom this witch hunt.

I am surprised at how so many here seem to forget how DC operates. Leaks. It has been that way as long as I have been alive.

They are anonymous

One took down a President

Trump is humiliating Sessions...and his dept.

He will get burned on this. He compared the intelligence community to nazis before he was even in the WH. Look where that got him. He tried to take them on before structure was in place.

Now he is taking on the AG ..who supported him. Its not going to end well

I heard Giuliani say he’s very happy with what he’s doing now when asked about the rumors during Trump’s cabinet selection.

It's trashed if he stays. Why delay the inevitable?

He figures he’ll ride it out and with any luck, this Mueller witch hunt will wrap up soon and that’ll be that. It won’t play out that way but that’s his only hope.

Fake News, “We make it up on the fly, you decide”

I think the Sessions comments by Trump are a false flag.

I think Trump is ticked off because Sessions is doing nothing about the career criminal Hillary Rotten who I believe and I think Trump believes is directly behind all this Russia collusion nonsense. She is the one organizing all this crap with her connections in the media and the Rat party. She has to be taken off the street and locked up where she belongs, not only to protect the public and show that we are a country of equal justice, but to put an end to this Russian nonsense so we can move ahead and get things done.

It was a lapse in judgement, though that’s disappointing to hear that from Rudy, if true.

Ok, I’ll give you Rosenstein. He makes two. But most of the desks are still empty. Two confirmed Trump appointees at DOJ still makes longer odds than Custer faced at the Little Big Horn. Personnel are policy. Trump needs his people in place yesterday. At a minimum, the White House needs to send the nominations forward.

It is true. He isnt the only one that thinks what sessions did was correct

Btw..why should he go down with the ship? Why shouldn’t he protect himself and do what was legally right?

Look at what has happened to kushners assistant. He threw her..or him under the bus. Now there will be a lot of legal fees in that persons future

And then what? The President has zero confidence in Sessions. He slams him on almost a daily basis. Even if this Mueller thing blows over how can Sessions even think that the President would ever value his service ever again?
