General Motors has put six of its cars under review, including its once breakthrough Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid, and is evaluating whether to cancel them in the coming years, according to a report from Reuters. The news comes as sales of cars continue to plummet in the U.S. and as consumers increasingly turn to SUVs and pickups.

Besides the Chevrolet Volt hybrid, other vehicles believed to be under consideration for elimination iinclude the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet Sonic, according to Reuters. GM spokesman Jim Cain declined to comment on the report. UAW President Dennis Williams said Thursday the union is in ongoing discussions

The Sonic is more suitable as a 3rd world shoebox transportation on 4 wheels. Not seeing as many ‘Smart’ cars lately either. Yeh save a few $ on fuel and risk your life driving a washing machine with wheels.

No chevy, no how. I do point and laugh at people who drive new ones.

New car sales are falling because wages are not keeping up and most cannot afford more debt.

I buy American cars. But not Government Motors. Not till they’re not government motors, any more.

I used to buy American cars, exclusively.

Then, it occurred to me that this was giving money to the UAW, who does not have the best interests of this fine Country in mind.

Solution?

Buy a car that is made in America by non-union hands. (My astonishingly well-built Honda is just such an automobile.)

When I am in the market again, I will consider every make - and compare on their qualities. I definitely prefer US-made, but in the scope of things, I have to go with the make that offers the best value and quality, with the features, design, and “stuff” I expect with my $.

Consider buying GM? Sure - but I expect them or any other maker to EARN my hard-earned $.

If they don’t make money....

It’s the capitalist way :)

GM comes to the conclusion that their Volts are crap.

Long after the driving public has indicated so by not buying them!

I recently rented a 2017 Ford Focus from Budget. Not too shabby—really enjoyed its ride and features. An improvement over previous years of that model.

The Obama administration (and the former President himself) claimed GM had paid back every dollar the Feds had pumped in to them...

GM should have been broken up as a condition for the bail out.

GM is finally feeling a real market pinch. Dropping models that make minimum or no profit and exiting markets like India and South Africa where they’ve finally admitted failure.

Note that they’re not dropping any crossovers, SUVs or pickups, which are adding production. That’s where the market is going. Demand for sedans of any kind (especially large American ones) is shrinking, with even upscale/luxury brands going to SUVs as their flagship models.

Companies that rely on subsidies should go out of business. Not doing so makes them inefficient, and more apt to make a political contribution than an investment in its own core business.

When the history books are written about Barak Obama's tenure as Commander in Chief, the Chevrolet Volt will doubtless be remembered as the most important car of his presidency.

We drove a rented GMC Yukon XL last week all over southern Idaho. I hate to admit it, but it was a great vehicle. Their V8 isn’t as powerful as the V8 in my Ford Expedition, but it was nicer in many small ways. I swore I would never buy another GM vehicle after their crappy government motors bailout and I’m sticking to that commitment.

Electric cars can still have a future but for successful sales the technology will require a supercharged, long lasting battery that can be fully recharged in say 15 minutes or less. Let the private companies explore the research and not the taxpayers.

No one but the gubmint buying that oversized golf cart? What a shock. Never saw on in the wild, even those Datsun Leaf things are very rare.

I see them all the time around here on the Washington DC beltway.

Imagine that. :-)
