This became an international incident and the number of nations in this situation jumped to 3 when the shooter’s name and identity was revealed.

One local article said the Mayor was already in some angry power struggle with the Chief related to appointment of a police inspector. The Chief had apparently proceeded without consultation and the Mayor thought it should be her prerogative to approve the appointment.
So the Chief may have been on thin ice over that and other stuff, then this happens and the Chief is on vacation (well that could happen to anyone, but....) and does not rush back to Minneapolis, instead returns 5 days later.... So yeah, the Mayor and a lot of the public were ready to make the Chief a scapegoat. Whether that will be the end or the beginning of housecleaning, I have no idea.

Hey! Besides Mpls./St.Paul and Duluth there is a WIDE part of Minnesota that is conservative. That is why I left Minneapolis. Carver County is solid red.
