Trump Aides, Seeking Leverage, Investigate Mueller’s Investigators
The Old Gray [bleep] (NYT) ^ | JULY 20, 2017 | MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT, MAGGIE HABERMAN and MATT APUZZO

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s lawyers and aides are scouring the professional and political backgrounds of investigators hired by the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, looking for conflicts of interest they could use to discredit the investigation — or even build a case to fire Mr. Mueller or get some members of his team recused, according to three people with knowledge of the research effort.

The search for potential conflicts is wide-ranging. It includes scrutinizing donations to Democratic candidates, investigators’ past clients and Mr. Mueller’s relationship with James B. Comey, whose firing as F.B.I. director is part of the special counsel’s investigation.

The effort to investigate the investigators is another sign of a looming showdown between Mr. Trump and Mr. Mueller, who has assembled a team of high-powered prosecutors and agents to examine whether any of Mr. Trump’s advisers aided Russia’s campaign to disrupt last year’s presidential election.

Tell that to Scooter Libby.

Or Martha Steward and thousands of other innocent people locked up because some prosecutor wanted to make a name for themselves.

Wouldn’t the best approach to have Sessions make good on Trump’s campaign initiative to put Hillary behind bars for the real crimes, as Mueller drums up non existent Trump-Russia crimes?

Yes that would be the exactly correct course of action, go after high ranking Dems. Along with going after the Mueller/Comey axis.

Any high level DOJ democrat is likely to be corrupt. So it doesn’t matter whether or not he scares easily. Sociopaths are wired that way. But they can be held in custody behind steel and concrete like any other criminal.

Maybe kushner Should fire Gorelick given she worked at same firm as mueller

This Gorlick:

In 1995, while America’s intelligence agencies were still investigating al Qaeda's 1993 terrorist bombing of the World Trade Center, the Clinton administration strengthened FISA to a degree that was unprecedented. Specifically, Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick called for increased restrictions on information-sharing between intelligence (CIA) and law-enforcement (FBI) agencies. In a 1995 memo to then-FBI Director Louis Freeh and U.S. Attorney Mary Jo White, titled “Instructions on Separation of Certain Foreign Counterintelligence and Criminal Investigations,” Gorelick wrote the following:

“We believe that it is prudent to establish a set of instructions that will more clearly separate the counterintelligence investigation from the more limited, but continued, criminal investigations. These procedures, which go beyond what is legally required, will prevent any risk of creating an unwarranted appearance that FISA is being used to avoid procedural safeguards which would apply in a criminal investigation.”

It should be noted that when Gorelick penned the aforementioned memo, President Clinton was extremely worried about ongoing FBI and CIA investigations into illegal Chinese contributions that had been made to his presidential campaign. Both the FBI and the CIA were churning up evidence damaging to the Democratic Party, its fundraisers, the Chinese, and ultimately the Clinton administration itself. It was also a period when the FBI had begun to systematically investigate weapons-technology theft by foreign powers, most notably Russia and China. Had FBI agents been able to confirm China's theft of such technology -- or its transfer of that technology to nations like Pakistan, Iran and Syria -- Clinton would have been forced by law and international treaty to react (and to thereby jeopardize the future flow of Chinese money into his political coffers).

Weissman also was only a minor donor to Domocrats, and may have donated zero in the 2016 cycle. So, why isn’t he the special counsel instead of Mueller?

NYT anonymous “sources” = fraudulent news.

why do people here still believe a word that NYT publishes and respond to them like they’re telling the truth?

The Trumps are not a crime family. Mueller and his law dogs are out for blood and will make it happen if not stopped.

Problem always is that Democrats can’t withstand any scrutiny because they are guilty as hell. They rely on their propagandists in the media to distract and demonize Republicans while censoring any news about their wrongdoings and scandals. Trump will find plenty of evidence while this joke council will have nothing.

Lou Dobbs was discussing his new book Putin's Gambit: A Novelwith Lars Larson tonight. The discussion went to the subject of Meuller's role as prosecutor. Dobbs called Meuller as corrupt having serious conflicts of interest.

Sessions saw the Russian collusion issue as politically motivated and didn’t want to be bothered by it. He figured (like most people) it was a “nothing-burger” and so recused himself.

Just like Hillary’s emails didn’t amount to much, this Russian issue seemed to go nowhere. Why waste any energy on it?
