Trump Aides, Seeking Leverage, Investigate Mueller’s Investigators
The Old Gray [bleep] (NYT) ^ | JULY 20, 2017 | MICHAEL S. SCHMIDT, MAGGIE HABERMAN and MATT APUZZO

WASHINGTON — President Trump’s lawyers and aides are scouring the professional and political backgrounds of investigators hired by the special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, looking for conflicts of interest they could use to discredit the investigation — or even build a case to fire Mr. Mueller or get some members of his team recused, according to three people with knowledge of the research effort.

The search for potential conflicts is wide-ranging. It includes scrutinizing donations to Democratic candidates, investigators’ past clients and Mr. Mueller’s relationship with James B. Comey, whose firing as F.B.I. director is part of the special counsel’s investigation.

The effort to investigate the investigators is another sign of a looming showdown between Mr. Trump and Mr. Mueller, who has assembled a team of high-powered prosecutors and agents to examine whether any of Mr. Trump’s advisers aided Russia’s campaign to disrupt last year’s presidential election.

You say, “just proceed with governing.” However, Trump’s attack on the mainstream media goes hand in hand with his governing philosophy. He wasn’t call the “steamroller” in NYCity for nothing.
It should be noted that the NYTimes writers who interviewed Trump were amazed at his equanimity. They thought after six months of constant opposition he would be somewhat chastened. They found a Trump ready and able to do battle. Years ago the Democrat Party fielded a man named Al Smith for President. Al was known as the “Happy Warrior”. It looks like we have a new Happy Warrior.

Its clear from posts on this thread that people dont know the fine details..gorelick still represents jared..and no info that she has quit representing ivanka.

I am pretty sure lowell works or has some kind of connection to gorelicks firm....and that means a connection to mueller.but I could have that wrong...
gorelick is not on the same level with criminal defense as lowell..thus kushner hired lowell

I may be crude but I am accurate. Hastert, Foley, Frank, Craig, Graham... Those are proven off the top of my head, never mind this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_congressional_page_sex_scandal .

It goes far deeper than that.

Sessions is a puzzle. Maybe he is trying to stay out of the line of fire.

You dont’ say!!

Well, who released the Piss Dossier, who is using Mueller and his lawyers to discredit Trump, damage his political goals, and perhaps find something to put a Trump in Jail!

Do Citizens not have Constitution protects against an out of control Government?

Weissmann is tough .
mueller could have picked him because he already has a connection to Sater and probably knows a lot about the backstory on this..but it could just be because he is a tough experienced RICO guy.

Mueller also hired one of Preet’s top guys

This investigation is basically a NY case builder under the guise of a federal investigation

Wasn't the NYT one of the rags that asked people for help in scouring Sarah Palin's emails for dirt on her?

Just sayin'......

One problem is that, if President Trump is innocent, he doesn’t need leverage. He just needs the truth. This doesn’t look like a good path to walk. If there is no “there” there, then don’t worry about. Just proceed with governing

I think you are being naive. The democrats play for keeps. Heck, the Clintons have people killed if they dare come forward to tell the truth. With Mueller and his gang of partisan hacks, they will do anything to try and put the stink on anyone in the Trump administration, regardless of whether its true or not. Combine with the willing media (CNN/MSNBC/ABC/CBS/NYTimes, etc) it will be such a one-sided dispersal of "facts" and a whole lot of opinion, based on anonymous sources.

Trump should fire Mueller now.

I just reread muellers order. Dowd may try to argue this is scope creep..but that order is pretty broad.

To seek a recusal, Mr. Trump’s lawyers can argue their case to Mr. Mueller or his boss, Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein.

Oh, sure, except Rosenstein was the original snake in the grass who made sure to hire Mueller his second in command snake in the grass. This whole thing goes back to Rosenstein. Evil, evil, evil.

I have switched my thinking on .gov. I view everything they now do with the lens that it is based upon/in corruption until and unless it is confirmed not to be. I am rarely surprised and it saves a lot of time.

Sessions better have Rosenstein step aside from supervising his former boss Mueller . A huge conflict of interest in any setting which I find unreal that Sessions even allowed this to occur .
In my work this would never be allowed.
The person under Rosenstein can either restrict this matter or just close it down .

Why Sessions hired Rosenstein is the real question.
Lara Ingram .A DC lawyer was shocked by this appointment .
She knows this Rosenstein and she was flabbergasted by his selection.

You are right .

The snake hired his former boss and then is supposed to supervise him .

Radio host Laura Ingram was shocked that Rosenstein was hired by Sessions .

And Sessions phony excuse that he recused himself after a Doj ethics recommendation after one month in office is beyond lame .
The same Doj full of Obama and Clinton snakes is something to even bother with .

We have had about 24 terrorist attacks on US soil by muslims under Mueller. Most, if not all, of the suspects were known to him prior to the attacks but he ignored warnings about them and let them happen. He knew about the players in 9/11, Ft. Hood, and the Boston Bombing. He did nothing. Who’s side is he on? Not America’s.

It might be a nothing Burger but now we have a special prosecutor (thanks Jeff Sessions) looking into all things Trump and that most definitely will go somewhere.

Reports are mixed as to whether kasowitz has totally quit or just taking reduced role. Sounds like the rumors that had been swirling may have been true.

He wasnt a good fit for this anyway.

Lets see how Dowd handles it
