If so, it kind of explains what happened.
Most likely, his so called pals were gangbangers (or wannabes) too. They have already learned to view violence upon other people as just something that happens, not that big a deal. They have already accepted that people who live their life style often die young. If, that is, his tattoos are real indicators of what he was. Those kind of tattoos are often seen on MS13 gang members or long time occupants of jail cells.
