McCain tells his closest friend in the Senate that he won't give up as politics prays for war hero after devastating diagnosis

John McCain announced he'd been diagnosed with cancer on Wednesday night

The 80-year-old Arizona Senator is recovering in Arizona with his family

He had gone in to hospital to have a blood clot removed from his eye last week

The procedure set back the Senate vote on the Republicans' now scrapped healthcare bill

Doctors realized his condition was more serious after the procedure last week

President Trump shared his well wishes for the 80-year-old after news of his severe diagnosis emerged

Some questioned whether the brain tumor was behind his confused questioning of ousted FBI director James Comey in June

Senator John McCain is vowing to return to Washington once he's been treated for brain cancer.

'Yeah, I'm going to have to stay here a little bit longer, take some treatments. I'll be back,' the 80-year-old Republican senator told South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, his close friend. 'I've been through worse.'

Graham shared the conversation with reporters on Wednesday evening, adding, 'So pray. God knows how this ends, not me. But I do know this: This disease has never had a more worthy opponent.'

McCain underwent surgery last week for what was thought to be a blood clot above his eye.

The Senate eagerly awaited his return and postponed a vote on the GOP healthcare bill while McCain rested up.

McCain embodies what is disgusting about the federal government. Parasites like him refuse to let go of the power and taxpayers $$ at 80 frickin years old.

“The McCain’s plan on picking who gets the seat eventually, too.”

I believe that is unethical. It's the Governor's job to pick a replacement, not the person leaving the seat. The honorable thing to do if you cannot carry out your duties is resign asap and let the state constitution do its thing.

The ‘Hare & the Tortoise’ are missing from that line up;
Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell. The Hare get’s no place fast, the tortoise takes his own sweet, tedious time, eventually making almost no progress at all.

This actually show us how little work our US senators really do.

“Which is exactly in keeping with the GOP-e foisting these betrayers on us, and then we voters get blamed for it.”

This “Senate Procedure” whereby the State’s sitting Senators get to offer their preference for replacements needs to end. And it carries over to Federal Judgeships too. Trump would never be able to transform the Judiciary if he lets Blue States “decide” who the nominees for openings are going to be.

"I'll be back"

If they wheel him in on a gurney, maybe. He is going to look SO much worse than Harry Reid, and many of the physical attributes will be dreadfully impaired.

He may not have very many ways to interact with the world around him. Most of the sensory capabilities will be greatly diminished, and it is not certain whether he shall have many cognitive functions remaining.

His condition must be truly serious.

It looks like McLame will be the next enemy of Donald Trump who gets neutralized and made ineffective to undermine Trump. He may not die, but I do believe his political career and power are over.

About how old was your brother in law when he was diagnosed with this type of brain cancer? Good for him that he has survived. I won’t comment right now on ‘The Maverick’.

'Yeah, I'm going to have to stay here a little bit longer, take some treatments. I'll be back,'

That's what any of us would say in the first shock of the diagnosis. From everything I've learned about glioblastoma in the last 24 hours, I suspect he'll soon have to change his decision.

The only claim to fame that John McCain owns, is being a P.O.W.

BEFORE becoming a P.O.W., “Wet Start Johnny McCain”, is the arsonist-by-action responsible for a life-taking deadly fire aboard the aircraft carrier USS Forrestal. His admiral daddy saved his bacon.

While being a P.O.W., he is on camera reading Communist propaganda, and apologetics towards his Communist captors. His fellow P.O.W.’s are on record saying he broke the U.C.M.J., and spelled it out for his captors. His daddy admiral pulled his bacon out again.

I’m a military veteran. John McCain ain’t no hero.

Do I see his now-having-cancer as some sort of woe-is-I?

(****) no.

I would urge everyone to not judge this too harshly.

I see no harm in supporting him in whatever he says or does (about his illness).

We should all pray for his recovery. And we should all therefore support whatever notion he has about dealing with it.

At any rate, and this should trump all criticisms, in a few months nothing we say or do is going to make a difference. He’ll either recover or won’t.

And I don’t see any way he can do any more (significant) damage in that little amount of time. The healthcare vote is dead until at least the Labor Day recess is done. So is all other legislative effort. Capitol Hill is shut down for the summer. Especially because of this.

So humor a man given such a diagnosis. Might come to regret any contrary words a few months from now anyway, for whatever reason.

Are you certain it was a glioblastoma and not any other type of brain cancer? There are many types of cancer cells and tumors. People rarely survive a glioblastoma for more than 1-2 yrs, 5 yrs at the outside.

Good for your brother-in-law, whatever he had, to be still around. I’m a 15 yr cancer survivor, but it wasn’t a glioblastoma! If I were John McCain with that diagnosis, I’d be wrapping up my affairs, resigning from the Senate, and spending whatever months I had remaining with my loved ones.
