'I need to work': Texas veteran says he was fired from Home Depot after confronting shoplifters
Fox News ^ | July 16, 2017

A 70-year-old veteran says he’s out of a job after he tried to stop some thieves from leaving the Home Depot store where he worked. It appears what he saw as doing the right thing was against company policy.

Jim Tinney says trying to do the right thing has guided him pretty well in life.

“In the Army, they train you to do things like that,” Tinney said.

Recently, Tinney said he saw three men carrying tool sets worth thousands of dollars to the checkout area at Home Depot. He said they seemed nervous.

“One of them hollered ‘let’s go,’ and they all grabbed their kits and started heading out,” Tinney said.

Tinney said without thinking, he tossed the paint roller extension he was holding, and ran to stop one of the men.

“I just automatically went like this and threw the stick at their feet,” Tinney said.

The men ended up getting away. Tinney said he thought it was over, until two weeks later, when he was fired.

He said he never imagined his actions would get him fired.

“No. I did not at all,” Tinney said.

Tinney admitted he learned during training at the store not to confront shoplifters, but he said his decision to act was a reflex.

Homo Depot just charges its customers more, so we pay for their stupid policy that approves theft.

My HD still gives a veteran’s discount (10%), and that’s pretty much the only reason I go there, because Menards is closer.

When is the last time you heard about a bank robbery?

Let's see.. A bank was robbed 3 miles away from home on Tuesday, another by the same crook 34 miles away on Friday. He was arrested on Saturday. Apparently the moron didn't follow California law and failed to bring his own bag so took one from another bank with a tracker installed.

Bank robberies constantly happen; it just isn't news in most places aside from maybe appearing on the police blotter link when the crooks are taken into custody.

Our government and politicians are allowing this mentality which is natural to their culture. In Texas the store managers and fellow shoppers allow it. Wispiness. They are pretending they’re being polite Why not push aside the invaders in favor of the veterans? Because they are uninformed unthinking unprincipaled and wimpy. Not polite. Wimpy. They are allowing an invasion. The shopkeepers favor the money the invaders are bringing and fellow Texan shoppers push aside veterans in favor of Latin American invaders

At least Greg Abbott is saying no. He’s getting grief for it but no

I do without or will drive 50 miles out of my way, one way, NOT to have to visit Home Depot.

Shop at Home Depot pretty much anywhere, and have such theft added to your bill.

Most big box stores and other retail chains are like this. They'd rather have the theft, than deal with dead employees/customers if the perps put up a fight.

At least twice, maybe three times a week for me. There's an electronic billboard on my route to work, and every time I drive by it, there's a new picture of a local bank-robbing perp, with a request to call with information.

Yep, and as you know, that $390,000 wasn’t sitting idly while the bank waited to credit it to your account. They have a variety of short-term products they can put it into and generate some interest income before you gain full access to your funds.

These folks are using EBT cards and very little, if any, real money. I only shop at Publix now as I do not see Mexicans in the store. However, the parking lot is occasionally frequented by some Muslim female beggars carrying signs and little babies. An older woman seems to their boss, and; Abdul cannot be far off.

My friend caught an African feral attempting to steal his Escalade from a parking garage. He had his girlfriend call 911 while he held/ground his face into the concrete floor for the next 5 minutes. Jaquilewandat was hauled off and the police thanked Mac for his capture.

Actually he would probably be serving 90 days in a cage in Austin. A judge there wore a pussyhat on her head while sitting on the bench judging the lives of others.

Banks will routinely lend money to other banks on an overnight basis to help the banks remain in compliance with reserve requirements imposed by the Fed.

This is lent at the prevailing Fed lending rate for these transactions.

LOL, ok, ok, I give!! I realized after I posted that there are over 4000 bank robberies on average. I never hear of them or else i am just not paying attention but I suspect as one poster here said that robberies of this sort are deliberately kept quiet. I am guessing this is ti discourage copy cats.

Sounds right for Austin. when When the Great Texas Secession “finally” occures we will have to figure out something for our liberal enclaves such as Austin and Houston. Maybe buy them one way tickets to Kalifornia, lol!

the store has made a business decision that its cheaper not to pay out lawsuits should any altercations go to court,

My brother was an auto insurance adjuster back in the '73-'74 gas crisis days. He said it was amazing how many big, gas-guzzling cars suddenly had engine fires and were totaled.

Cases were so fraudulent that they screamed for justice - he had many where the smell of kerosene was heavy and in some cases the "engine fire" had started in the rear seat. He said it looked like the owner would just take a bucket of kerosene and slosh it throughout the engine compartment, but some didn't even bother with that.

More than once he complained to the higher ups and was basically ignored. One finally told the same story - easier to pay off than risk litigation - just add the cost to your next insureance payment.
