Nelson DeMille’s bestselling novel. Nightfall, opens on July 17, 1996, with a steamy encounter on a Long Island beach. The man and women involved decide to videotape their coupling. In the process, they inadvertently capture the destruction of TWA Flight 800. The novel centers around that video.
Through his many contacts with the NYPD/Joint Terrorism Task Force DeMille learned there was a real video out there. To the best of my knowledge, the FBI confiscated the original from the MSNBC studios in the early morning hours of July 18, 1996.
Although I have communicated with scores of people who saw the video when it briefly aired, I have only spoken to one who knows exactly what he saw. His name is Thomas Young. Here is his story:
In early August 1996, I was admitted to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Hong Kong for ten days with a back injury. My employer, Polar Air Cargo, flew my wife Barbara out to join me as our anniversary was in a few days, and I knew my wife would be worried sick with me being hospitalized in a foreign country.We had little else to do but watch TV as I was in traction for most of the hospital stay. From the first day of being admitted to the hospital until the morning I was discharged from the hospital and boarded a flight for San Francisco, I witnessed a devastating video of a missile launch recorded by an unknown Long Island, NY resident.
The video was re-played every 15 minutes (24/7) on the local English-language, Cantonese-, and Mandarin-language television stations. It was recorded on July 17, 1996.

I remember seeing that film, too, the day of the incident. Where did it go?
Pretty good novel. The segue into 9/11 at the climax was a nice twist.
WPIX in NYC played it continuously and then within a day it was never broadcast again.

I have to reply to every TWA800 video. Friend of the family was a crash site investigator for Boeing for many years. I asked him about TW800 - he said “missle”.

It went down the rabbit hole. TWA has many wild and crazy conspiracy theories out there. But Dr. Jack Cashill has done the very best job ever of digging away at the truth.
And the truth of the matter is that our government has lied to us. And has scrubbed and deleted much of the true evidence that led to TWA 800.
Great book. Cashill has a good book too. He presents eyewitness evidence, largely avoids conspiracy theories though it seems like he argues for a Navy/private contractor missile test that went awry.

Yes. I recall that it was broadcast before there was any official narrative about what had happened to the airliner. There were many people standing on a patio near the beach and they all told the reporters on the tape that they had seen a missile shoot down an airliner.
The witnesses verbally reported on tape seeing exactly what one could be clearly seen on the video.
I can't tell you how I know this because it could affect someone's career. Maybe in a few years.
Everyone had VCRs then. Someone has to have it.
No one with half a brain ever believed the government bullcrap fantasy about a bad wire in a fuel cell.
A defect never seen before or since on a Boeing 747.
The government caused an untold amount of inconvenience and caused the airlines a lot of money and down time in a transparent attempt to lend credibility to their bogus cover story.
They knew then and know now that it was a terrorist missle attack that killed 230 people and dealt another severe blow to TWA already staggering under the mismanagement of Carl Icahn.
Back then people still had some faith in the federal government and the FBI but this incident marked a turning point.
Now the government and the FBI have less credibility than a used car salesman.
If they’ve got obscure tapes of the Joe Pyne Show, why don’t they have this? Surely someone must have snagged this on Betamax or VHS?
Hundreds of live witnesses recounted the same story of the missle strike.
That wouldn’t surprise me at all. Was Flt 800 within MANPADS range?

I don’t pretend to know what really happened. What I do know is that the investigation’s announced conclusion was downright evil.
It was one more reason to mistrust our government. It caused the public to grasp for straws, to find out what really happened.
If someone screwed up, fine. I wouldn’t like it, but I could deal with it if the government shot straight with me. When it lies to me, I don’t trust much of anything it does.
We were told there were no NAVY operations in the area that night. That seemed to be a lie. We later found out there were.
This puts the public an a very dangerous position. It causes them to doubt not only the government, but NAVY operations that night, the integrity of Boeing subsequent to the investigation, the FBI due to James Kahlstrom’s lack of be trustworthy. This was one more time the Clinton’s pulled the strings to destroy faith in our institutions.
They know damn well what happened. So do we. They lied their asses off.
Over 150 people in an arc around the cost witnessed the plane get shot down. The government’s position? They were all idiots.
Members or ex-members of the military saw it too. They know what they saw.
I’m as infuriated about this issue as I am at the Vince Foster Killing, the Waco Killings, and the Ruby Ridge killings. I’m also very concerned with the way the Oklahoma City Bombing issue was handled.
The government thinks they got away with these things. It didn’t.
Good loyal citizens who love this nation and have no axe to grind with their government, have serious questions about these things.
Yes, I have political differences with our leaders. Those involve policy, and sometimes crimes. Each of these involved high level crimes perpetrated by our leaders, government officials, and even government law enforcement agencies.
I knew when I had seen these things, that the corruption Trump has revealed on Capital Hill was there.
Most officials in Washington, D.C. needs to be sent home. What’s more, most government workers in Washington, D.C. need to be send packing too.
The swamp indeed.
