A giant iceberg about the size of Delaware that had been under scientists’ watch has broken off an ice shelf on the Antarctic peninsula and is now adrift in the Weddell Sea.
The 2,200 square-mile, trillion metric-ton section of the Larsen C ice shelf “calved” off sometime between Monday and Wednesday, a team of researchers at Swansea University’s Project Midas has reported, citing imaging from NASA’s Aqua MODIS satellite instrument.

This is tantamount to throwing an ice chip into an Olympic-sized swimming pool. Of course “the size of the state of Delaware” sounds pretty impressive, until you work the actual numbers.

So if there was no ice berg calvi8ng off the shelf and the shelf itself recedes back into the Continental plain, THEN the ice is melting FASTER than it is being replaced “upstream”... But like any other river system there are YEARLY variations!
The warmists will say that it’s because of global warming. But I believe that chunks of this size can break because of sheer weight or disturbance under the surface. Could someone with knowledge of geology confirm or deny this?
