The first four days of legal recreational marijuana sales generated $3 million in sales revenue and about $500,000 in tax revenue, putting Nevada on pace to achieve an estimated $30 million in sales revenue over the next six months of recreational sales, according to the Nevada Dispensary Association.
The sales figure was generated from Saturdays first day of recreational marijuana sales to Tuesday. The tax rate for recreational pot is 33 to 38 percent, depending on local regulations, with all state and local taxes included.
We had a higher demand than everybody initially thought, dispensary association director Riana Durrett said. It shows this market really exists.

“The total of tax and product can still be cheaper than black market prices.”
Well, the point of a black market on legal products is generally to deliver them cheaper than the legal products can be delivered, mostly due to excessive taxation, so that’s not really likely.
“Kinda the point of the whole legalization scheme.”
Not really, especially not when government just sees it as another vice to be subject to unlimited taxation.
No. Risk is what drives the price of illegal marijuana. Remove the risk, slap on a big tax, and undersell the illegal market.
Here in Oregon, a voter referendum legalized weed. The government gets the tax revenue, but not even our liberal governments have come out in favor of legalized weed. Gotta play both sides of that fence. Chickenshit bastids.
You can possess four plants(Oregon) and up to 8 ounces per household. A plant can produce a few ounces, or several pounds, if someone really wants to try, so the wiggle room is in the plant, which is unsmokeable. I believe the 8 ounces has to be dried and useable. You can give it all away, so long as you give less than an ounce at a time to each recipient(21 and over) and can possess no more than an ounce away from home. Again, this is Oregon.
That’s ok. The state of Florida knows I am as well.
“Weed is the gateway drug to opioids from all I’ve read.”
A running joke in our house is me asking my wife, “Have you seen my gateway yet? It’s been over 2 years & I haven’t seen my gateway yet!!!”
People with addictive personalities shouldn’t use caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, cannabis, pain meds, etc...
Hopefully one day soon Fedzilla will end the prohibition on cannabis & real scientific research can be done to settle the issue once & for all.
A Freeper on anothet legal pot thread mentioned that he knows a construction company where they literally could not find someone who wasn’t high to hire when he told a foreman that he thought the entire work crew was high.
So imagine the cost if just ONE of the buildings that work crew worked on burns to the ground or collapses because they were baked out of their gourd. Now multiply that by an entire state over generations over every profession from doctors to electrians to plumbers to IT security geeks.
With that in mind I guarantee that for every dollar in tax revenue gained by playing the French defense on demon weed, AT LEAST four more will be lost either due to outright lawbreaking or lost production.
My point is that drunk driving is a large problem (28 people die as a result of it every day). But that's the tip of the iceberg when it comes to booze. I've been a cop for 14 years and I'd say 95% of the assaults and domestic jobs I've gone to have involved booze.
My perspective is probably biased as well, but the only problem I really see with weed is the criminality that comes with it because it is sold on the streets. I've never seen anyone get high and beat up their wife, and I've never seen a huge brawl in a club spill out into the street where all the participants are high.

I know more than I should have to and they all had weed in their system. Great example; One of our guys got high last month and broke a table leg off of the kitchen table and put his wife into a coma before starting in on the 4 year old. You should have seen the blood on the ceiling. Ahh, peaceful weed.
The “peaceful” weed smoker is a middle or upper class myth based on nothing more than “feeling” or wishing it’s true. Really, It’s neither true, nor untrue. People’s chemistry and the plant can vary wildly. Some people chill. Some rape their step daughters. But advocating its “universal peace-y ness” is so very dangerous and irresponsible.
Pot enslaves millions of people into mediocrity. If it were alcohol we would call them drunks and shame them, socially. Pot advocates celebrate daily use; some even declare how healthy it is.
Come ride with me for a week. I’ll show you what ppl do high on weed. :) super fun.
Oh, apologies. Lol. I somehow missed that you’re a cop. Then you probably have know your share of fellas who beat their wives or get into a brawls. :)
I maintain my stance on alcohol versus weed though.
In the US, more people drink than smoke weed. However, there are more weed users with felony records who were high at the time of their crime. It’s something to consider.
Go, Blue.
I’ve been an NYPD cop for 14 years. I have extensive knowledge of people beating up their wives and getting into club brawls. Almost 100% involve booze. Almost 0% involved weed. I’m not saying weed is great, but booze is a lot worse in my experience.
Yes, see my follow up post. I apologized for thinking you were just some Reg dude.
Come on down to S GA, man! We don’t have a ton of drunk, brawling Irishmen down here. Just gang banging pot head junkies. I’ll give you the tour.
Best, Noam
It was good for our first President, but of course he grew his own.
