Yes! Come to Florida, but leave your liberal politics at the Georgia-Florida line!

Yes, I remember well the awful summers in Chicago area as well. How did we ever survive there without A/C?

No place in US has perfect weather year round. Summers in Seattle area are wonderful with moderate temps 70-80 and low humidity. But then there is that 7-8 months of every day drizzle.

We have a HOA pool & A/C here too, but I am planning to make arrangements to spend summers in North-West. Why not have a cake and eat it too haha..

Indiana is right next door - all the midwest hospitality with a much better conservative tack.

WOW! Well, Alaska is also VERY FREE! That means a LOT to me. We have very little interference to our lives here by the government. When I travel, It is hard to get used to all the Law Enforcement I see in the other States. The fact is South Dakota is so small a lot of people still know each other.

If you are a crook in South Dakota, you won’t be in business long!

I get it, you mean existing cable route.

Have you talked to an independent guy to see how much it would cost to run from your house to the nearest terminal pole. then I would talk to your PUC, and the governor’s office as well as the office of your local state rep.

I heartedly support the SD suggestion but ask that you send a minimum of a dozen recent SD arrivals back to their place of origin for each person you are looking to relocate here.

That’s kind of what I thought we could do with the illegal immigrants from Mexico living here on handouts but I was only thinking of a one for one swap. Instead of empty, send the buses back filled with hardworking legal immigrants that are willing to obey US laws and work hard for their American Dream.

philled, I read where the mayor of Aberdeen is shipping in “immigrants” as fast as the law will allow! I have heard that the city of Miller South Dakota was offering anyone $5000 dollars to move there and get a job. I have personally seen a sign in a small town outside of Brookings offering lots in the city for FREE if you will build a house there.

I don’t think over population is a problem in South Dakota.

That is nonsense and you know it! You could say that about Flagstaff and the AZ “high country,” but I used to work for a company that had a plant in Casa Grande and that place is “Satan’s Oven” for more than three months out of the year. And don’t get me started about the summertime flash floods. It can be 1000 degrees and then you have a storm that’s like a cow pi$$ing on a flat rock, and all of a sudden every arroyo is disgorging water like a broken dam. And that action “upsets” the rattle snakes who don’t like to have to swim.

I'm in the valley but once it starts to cool off, we love it here. I gave my wife the chance to move back to South Florida but she wants us to stay here. We visited there again last summer and she cannot stand the humidity and loves the desert.

But yes, the transition months can be warm, and summer is miserable but we have come to call it home.

No, Nashville and Davidson county is a liberal hellhole. All the bonds they float are going to come due.

Better in surrounding areas like Frankin or Smryna.

Quality, not quantity! SD is the size of England and Wales but with 64 million fewer people— overpopulation is not a concern. However, there is a serious drain on the smaller rural communities. Sad to see and I don’t think it is reversible.

Point Taken!

Can you name a more QUALITY group than the average Freeper? I would be glad to have almost any Freeper as a neighbor.

Last I knew of, TN had the Hall tax which was 6% on dividends and investment income but still no tax on earned income. Maybe I missed something though. Sadly, I left that great state 10 years ago.

No worries. Few states have a flat linear income tax. They manipulate unearned vs. earned income, deductions based on dependents vary, and also sometimes pension incomes are exempt. So it is difficult to compare all 50 states. Even Auto license taxes vary widely.

WA state where I spent 12 post-retirement years has no state income tax at all, but sales tax runs around 10% and property tax is not cheap either.

At the end of day it all depends on where your family and friends live and which state you really like.

Here in Florida, income tax is unconditionally zero. And if one is a senior living in an owned residence, there is a hefty property tax reduction. Sales tax runs around 6%. Utilities are lower than national average.

Time to revive this thread as the nuclear level of Illinois insanity is approaching critical mass.
