Czech Republic Plans To Combat Terrorism By Arming Its Citizens

The lower house of the Czech parliament voted to put gun owners’ rights in the constitution Wednesday, arguing it protects citizens from Islamist terrorists.

The European Commission passed stricter gun laws in December in response to a growing terror threat. The Czech Republic was one of three countries to oppose the changes, and it is now about to make it legal for citizens to use firearms to protect the security of the country.

“This constitutional bill is in reaction to the recent increase of security threats, especially the danger of violent acts such as isolated terrorist attacks … active attackers or other violent hybrid threats,” a draft of the bill reads.

Critics argue the changes will never take effect as European Union directives overrule the proposed legislation.

“Putting it in the constitution is therefore nonsense,” Jan Farský, the deputy mayor of Chovanec, told Hospodarske Noviny.

The bill passed the lower house by a large majority. It will now go through the upper house before President Milos Zeman can sign it into law. Zeman previously supported more restrictions on guns in the country but had a change of heart after a series of terror attacks across Europe. “Earlier I spoke against possession of large amounts of weapons [in the hands of the people],” Zeman said in an interview with newspaper Blesk in July, 2016. “After those attacks, I do not think so any more.”

EU recently launched legal action against the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary for allegedly breaching their obligations to the union by refusing to take refugees.

Do you pronounce that ‘Chex-it’? They could do worse. Hope the EU commission doesn’t send them a nasty letter or something.

EU Hell!! The Czechs, more than anyone, have good reason to remember the last time OTHER NATIONS decided and decreed what was best for them. Their neighbors learned the lessons not too much later.
It is too bad that the EU part of europe never read history. They may (?) have learned something. Maybe.

The South once felt that way. The "screw that" position lost.

So what are you saying, that the eastern European countries should just roll over for the EU?

No, I'm saying I hope it works out better for state sovereignty next time.

this is why the DC aristocracy constantly tries to circumvent the US constitution via treaty. (see also Ginsberg) The political class HATE citizens with rights. The establishment media despises free thinking individuals.

The EU model is THEIR preferred form of government. They do not want to be citizen politicians, they want to be overlord commissars.

Apples and oranges.

Who is going to enforce the EU directives? The EU is going to go to war with the Czech Republic? Pfft.

"I guess they don’t think hugs and kisses will calm the beast."

Au contraire. They just need MORE hugs. The latest good girl turned skank, Katy Perry, has the right idea...just too limited.

" I’ll add Poland to my list of safe EU countries to visit."

I just read that Italy is not allowing them in country and encamping them in a small part of Sicily and Malta. Those that "escape" to Italy are being flown out to their various nations of origin. I bet that is ticking off the Pope. I keep expecting Francis to break into song, "We Are The World, We Are The People".

My apologies to good Christians whose virtues I admire, but I will never understand how a bunch of mortal men (Cardinals) can vote in another mortal man who supposedly then has a direct connection to God. Every thinking person knows that favoritism and politics are involved. Does God have political leanings? Think not.
