22m Americans to lose cover in Senate healthcare bill
BBC News ^ | 26th June 2017 | BBC News

Some 22 million Americans could lose their health insurance over the next decade under a Senate bill to replace Obamacare, a congressional report says. However, the bill would reduce the budget deficit by a total of $321bn (£252bn) in 2017-2026, the non-partisan Congressional Budgetary Office said. Similar legislation passed by the House of Representatives was also said to be likely to leave millions uninsured. A number of Republicans have expressed reservations about the Senate plan. The draft legislation, unveiled last week, is unlikely to be approved by Democrats, who see it as cruel and unfair. President Donald Trump's Republican party is struggling to secure the 50 votes it needs to get its bill through the Senate when it comes to the floor next week. On Thursday Republicans Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson, Mike Lee and Rand Paul said they were "not ready to vote for this bill", but were "open to negotiation". Mr Johnson said on Sunday there was "no way" there should be a vote on the legislation this week. Top Democrat Nancy Pelosi earlier warned that "hundreds of thousands" of Americans would die if congressional Republicans pass their healthcare legislation.

Plus doesn’t this bill exclude illegals from free healthcare? I assume the separate country of Mexifornia is different, but if it does that would explain the “22 million” losing their healthcare. The leftist media always says the illegal population is around 11 million but some estimates put it as high as 30 million, so just to do an average make it 20 million.

The MSM does not make clear that this is an estimate of people who might choose not to buy insurance because they are young and healthy and (in their mind) at low risk for needing health care. They were included in the Obamacare estimate because coverage was “mandated” in that law. People who are economically unable to pay for medicaid coverage would be subsidized under the Senate bill. Unless a significant number of people understand the real truth in the analysis and not the Dem jedi mind tricks people will be easily panicked into voting against their own interests. The claim that thousands will die from this bill is based on studies done in Massachusetts when they implemented Romneycare. People who voluntarily did not purchase insurance from the plan were found to have poorer medical outcomes than those that did which shouldn’t be a surprise. In the long run the Dems really just want a single payer system. “Single-payer” is code for “government rationing” based on political loyalty. Once government, rather than the free market, has the power to determine who gets medical care and who doesn’t we will have returned to a feudal state of oligarchs and peasants and lost our republic.

This is so much manure. Here is a statement from a NY Times article from May 22 of this year:
“In 2016, there were 28.6 million Americans without health insurance, down from more than 48 million in 2010. “

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/22/health/obamacare-health-insurance-numbers-nchs.html

If you do the math that’s 11.4 million people that were insured by Obamacare on someone else’s nichol. Now this was from 2010 to 2016, 6 years. The article being displayed on the board tries to estimate through 2026 which is another ten years on the road with it.

So what they are doing is saying the first 11.4 million will lose their insurance and another 10.3 million will be affected by 2026, basically double what was awarded a free ride at this point. But they are not telling the truth.

First, if the Obamacare system is taken away, those 11.7 million will probably not be able to pay for premiums they couldn’t pay for to begin with and over time will drop off the insured category. Secondly, they are guesstimating on how many people from the remaining 28.6 million could possibly get insured on the following 10 years keeping a few each way.

But the tell tale sign of a BS article like this is when they use the word, COULD rather than will or would. They don’t know, and they only care to make a statement to create a problem. Besides, if you believe anything that comes out of Britain, as they are about as liberal a country as there is, then you might as well put your hands over your ears from the recourse of getting fooled.

The 22 million figure is likely fake news and just a talking point. I don’t think members of Congress are stupid enough to cut off 22 million people from care.

I have a hard time buying that number. The biggest increase in coverage has been in Medicaid. The one time bomb that is ticking now. When all the states that took the Fed deal for the Feds to pay 100% of Medicaid the first 3 years ,then the states share would be phased back in over 3 years to their full share payment.

Most of the states that took the deal will be looking sticker shock when that happens and they will dial back on coverage, they will have no choice.

“Nancy said hundreds of thousands would die. Of what?? No insurance??”

We already are losing 93 million Americans a day to gun violence(ref Terry McAuliffe), so whats hundreds of thousands more?

Everyone else is on their own to purchase from whom they want. If anyone who can afford it doesn’t want it, so be it.

That is the correct conservative answer.

However

It is now 31 years since President Reagan signed the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), which requires hospitals and doctors to provide free treatment without compensation to persons who cannot (or will not) pay for their care.

Your proposal, in order to work (and by work, I mean, without printing money or borrowing it from China), MUST refuse care to the person who "doesn't want [to buy insurance]".

This perfectly rational, conservative, common sense approach cannot command five votes in the US Senate, or 50 in the House.

Therefore, it is not going to happen.

Some 22 million Americans could lose their health insurance over the next decade under a Senate bill to replace Obamacare, a congressional report says...yep - exactly the headline I expected on local ABC TV news tonight after the OMB markup this afternoon - not that the Senate bill would reduce the deficit by over 300 billion over the next ten years or reduce government spending by 1.2 trillion over the same period, but that "22 million would lose healthcare coverage" - the only thing 22 million would lose would be being coerced into buying mandate-bloated high-priced insurance that they might not need or might not want - and not a Republican in sight to explain and challenge this big big lie that's going to sink their bill before it even gets to the floor for a vote.......

No they would not. But now that the media has gotten hold of that number they view it as infallible.

NO REPEAL is causing 100 mil people to lose health care coverage.

Two can play the game. Mine is more accurate.

NO REPEAL is hurting millions of children.

I read that 19 million are already uninsured - by choice. The CBO overestimated the number that would sign up (11 million signed up, 21 million projected). The CBO is assuming those people would sign up under ACA, but not under BHCA (again, probably by choice, although they leave that part out).
