The article is part of a campaign to keep President Trump from firing the Special Counsel during these early days, by trying to bolster the Russia-Trump collusion narrative.

If they can defend the Special Counsel’s office long enough for the partisan Democrat attack dogs hired by it to get subpoenas issued and start an in-depth investigation of Trump’s businesses and associates, then no doubt they believe they will be immune from risk of termination until they can turn up crimes of some sort within the Trump Organization.

People often compare this to the Scooter Libby or Whitewater special prosecutors. This is much different, and much worse.

Those special prosecutors were limited to specific crimes they were investigating, including perjury or obstruction of the investigation.

The Mueller appointment is vastly broader than any special prosecutor which has ever been appointed. It is not limited to a specific crime, but is charged with looking for any link between Trump and his people and Russia.

This effectively unbounded jurisdiction justifies an investigation much wider than any previous special prosecutor, and an investigator could logically look at his entire life and the lives of his family and associates and all of his and their businesses, on the grounds that you never know where you will find a “link” with Russia.

Scooter Libby was sentenced to prison (later commuted) after innocently mentioning during a one-on-one phone call that an Ambassador's wife worked for the CIA.

The Washington Post, on the other hand, reveals to the entire world that the USA has a spy “deep inside the Russian government” with direct knowledge about Putin's activities - and there will be no legal consequences for anybody!

Yep... and as it happens two of these three reporters are pushing this latest attack [Sept 2019] on Trump about his alleged phone call with a 'foreign leader' that so concerned a person that they blew the whistle on the call and the whistleblower just happened to choose reporters to whistle to who were involved in the coup from at least the time Crowdstrike was called in to look at the DNC computers.
