I find it hard to believe those documents could be shielded from a subpoena from a prosecutor.

Sessions (once he wakes up) can end this in a very short amount of time I wouldn't get my hopes up about Jeff Sessions doing anything about anything. From what I can tell, he seems to have recused himself from the office of Attorney General.

They should just subpoena the records and keep pounding the drum until they are released..

A mercenary raid paid by an untraceable organization to retrieve this and turn it over to the FBI is admissible evidence as it was not obtained by law enforcement officials in the performance of their duties.

Those files are all on numerous computerd at NSA and/or FBI. All it takes is someone with the stones to take them. Jeff Sessions?

...are off-limits from the public for the next five years under the Presidential Records Act...an effective House and Senate could revise said act to make access to the records immediate in matters of national security - opps - I said effective, didn't I?....

Just the fact that they did this should trigger obstruction investigations: not too obvious?

Most criminal statutes, federal and state, are codified with a 5 year statute of limitations, with many civil suits limited by a 7 year limitations. There are exceptions, like homicide.
The statute means the crime charged within the indictment must of occurred within 5 years of the charge.
Time for DOJ to either issue a grand jury subpoena or a search warrant.
