In 30 years folks won’t remember that Jack Ma didn’t agree they’d still be working 8 hours per day, five days per week.

“What’s a Jack Ma?”, is what they will ask.

Ahead of my time, I’m already thinking, “What’s a Jack Ma?”

What’s more, I’m not interested enough to find out.

More limousine liberalism. I guarantee that Jack Ma does not work 4 hours per day to get his billions.

If this future comes “true”, builders, designers and decorators will still have to work extremely long hours for even pickier clients that have nothing better to do than to whine about paint color being beige instead of greige (gray-beige) and counter tops that are a fraction higher on one side than the other.

Jack Ma: In 30 years people will work 'four hours a day and maybe four days a week

He's right. I call it the "Star Trek" future; a small population of humans enjoy a life of leisure, scholarly pursuit and scientific exploration, clocking in only to ensure the machines that produce everything keep running.

The billions of illiterate, unskilled, sweaty laborers who toil in the fields and factories will not be needed. Eventually, the higher classes will tire of feeding and housing them and getting nothing in return but violence, crime, sloth, addiction and various other social pathologies.

That's when things are going to get interesting.

Sorry, Jack, I think you are wrong. Futurists said that 40 years ago. People work longer than they did in the fifties.

Here’s more missed predictions:

“I think there is a world market for maybe five computers.” -Thomas Watson, chairman of IBM, 1943

“The horse is here to stay but the automobile is only a novelty—a fad.” - -The president of the Michigan Savings Bank advising Henry Ford’s lawyer not to invest in the Ford Motor Co., 1903

“Television won’t last because people will soon get tired of staring at a plywood box every night.” - -Darryl Zanuck, movie producer, 20th Century Fox, 1946

“There is no reason for any individual to have a computer in his home.” - -Ken Olson, president, chairman and founder of Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC), in a talk given to a 1977 World Future Society meeting in Boston

I think Mr. Ma’s quote will be joining this list!

If the human population is that much in excess many will be employed running the Soylent Green® factories.

But their main occupation will be to provide the raw material for the Soylent Green® factories.

1. Isn't "Alibaba" offensive to someone?

Yeah, Amazon.

I’m already down to zero hours a day, seven days a week. But there already are people who work four hours a day, four days a week. We call them government workers.

That’s an average from my the one person working 80 hours per week and the other four waiting for their government checks paid for by the first one.

The people we’re displacing first in the workforce through unskilled immigration and automation are the least able to adapt to the high skill jobs that remain, and that’s a recipe for chaos.

Automation, Mechanization, Computerization will take over much of the force.
A few warm bodies to oversee the processes and make adjustments, etc.
