Sharyl Attkisson Interviews Chaffetz: Leaving Congress Because Of What Hasn't Changed
Real Clear Politics ^ | 06/18/2017 | Ian Schwatrz

FULL MEASURE W/ SHARYL ATTKISSON: Just a couple of months ago, we profiled Congressman Jason Chaffetz, the Republican chairman of the powerful House Oversight Committee which was poised to dig deep on wide-ranging investigations into government mischief, waste, fraud and abuse. A few weeks later, Chaffetz abruptly resigned from Congress. We asked the Oversight Man what changed his mind about being a lead watchdog with not only a GOP majority in Congress, but also a Republican in the White House. He told me it’s more a matter of what hasn’t changed. We started the interview with me asking how he told party leaders he was quitting.

Chaffetz said he has found things to be just the same or even worse since Republicans took control of Congress and, now, the White House.

"When I first started, they had Democrats who had the House and Senate in the Presidency. And that whole pendulum swung, but I'm telling you, in the first five, six months, I haven't seen any changes. And, and that's, that's very frustrating, You come to that point and say, alright, it's, it's time for a change," Chaffetz said.

What’s the rest of the story....

I'm guessing there's a seven figure book deal waiting for Congressman Chaffetz.

There was one time I had to answer for something his committee was investigating. He didn’t know what the hell he was talking about. His co-committee colleague Ted Lieu was worse but I expected that from a CA Dem. Chaffetz did not impress anyone. I like Gowdy and he really seems to be on the ball but unfortunately his results are about the same as Chaffetz.

Working with totally biased people like Elijah Cummings, the ery would be down right awful...however, the ( chairman of the committee) is one of only three committee chairmen in the House with the authority to issue subpoenas without a committee vote or consultation with the ranking member. However, in recent history, it has become practice to refrain from unilateral subpoenas. Which in my opinion makes this "powerful committee" a toothless tiger; the very embodiment of political smoke and mirrors.

You come to that point and say, alright, it's, it's time for a change," Chaffetz said.

Chaffetz, like every leader of an 'investigative committee' in congress is all mouth, all sound bite, all bullshit and no action.

When was the last congressional committee that sent any crook to any jail?

20 some years ago, a demonRAT congress critter from Ohio, wearing a cheap hair piece, screwed some ranking demonRAT, the RATS turned on him and he went to jail.

When the pubbie pussies are in charge, they yak for two years, turn in a report, and go and have a drink while they preen for the msm.

I say to Chaffetz, good luck, no one will miss you, go get a yob.

Hypothesizing blackmail is not an Alex Jones type statement.

Saying aliens from outer space are blackmailing him from their base in antarctica is an alex jones statement.

His blindness is dazzling.

Easy to disprove just post all the indictments that have been issued by Sessions based on investigation results submitted to Justice. Must be dozens of them.

I may be wrong, and I will apologize if so, but wasn’t there rumors of him having an affair?

If so, then he has destroyed his ability to be one of moral authority.

Sadly, Republicans, especially conservative ones, cannot get away with moral mistakes. Dems and Rhinos can, but not conservatives.

Thus the reason why in his long political career, Pence has always had the rule of never ever being alone with another woman. Even if it’s just for dinner business meeting, he has his wife present.

It’s the Billy graham rule, and it’s an excellent one. Remove all possibility of even a hint of anything happening.

Satan is crouching at the door of all good men, just waiting for us to stumble, and his cohorts in the media and the Democrat party are watching us, waiting for all high profile conservatives to fall.

There’s a lot of obstruction going on, and it’s not Trump who’s doing it.

No Grand Juries or indictments go forward unless Sessions says so. Not up to House or Senate committee chairs, they can recommend only which is why nothing went forward under Obama's Justice department. The mystery is why they don't go forward when the Party changes. Nothing in the world preventing any criminal investigation of the Clinton Criminal Empire yet it isn't happening. Statute of limitations will soon cure all of that, but why do we let that happen?

You speak of, Jim "Beam me up Scotty" Traficant. After he was released he went back to his farm, and had a heart attack while on his tractor. He was a classic old time Democrat who called a spade a spade. That is whey the democrats took him down.

Absolutely no excuse for not finishing out the 2-year term he was elected for. He may not have been getting the documents but there was plenty he could do for the country and for the constituents who elected him, funded him, etc.

Yeah I think there is some NSA unmasking going on here and the left has something on him, John Roberts being another prime example.

The fourth branch of government: the bureaucracy is unelected, uncountable and out of control. Go against them and they will use and abuse government power to destroy you. They must be brought to heel. Eventually they will not back down to any branch of government regardless of the law because they believe themselves to be untouchable. US government bureaucrats the real totalitarians of this world.

I saw the show- there was a lot of surprises there. I came away wondering if there isn’t more to the story. If what he says is true, Trump hasn’t made much progress draining the swamp, but we already knew that.
