Trump Attorney: The President Is Not Under Investigation
NBC News ^ | 06/18/2017 | KAILANI KOENIG

Posted on 06/18/2017 7:34:16 AM PDT by MaxistheBest

An attorney for President Trump was adamant on Sunday that the president is not under investigation, despite the president’s tweets this week referring to one as a "witch hunt."

“Let me be clear here,” said Jay Sekulow, a member of the president’s legal team, on NBC's “Meet The Press.” “The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction."

On Friday morning, President Trump sent a tweet that seemed to confirm that he was under scrutiny, writing, “I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt.”

But Sekulow claimed the president wasn’t referring to an actual investigation in the message, but instead a news report about one.

“The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post,” he said, referring to the Post’s report this week that Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the election, now also includes a look at whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice.

“He's not afraid of the investigation — there is no investigation,” Sekulow said, adding, “there is not an investigation of the President of the United States, period.”

Sekulow on Sunday also acknowledged that the president was “fully aware that if in fact he took this action, he would see a lengthening" of the amount of time it would take to get through the Russia investigation if James Comey was removed as FBI director, but still decided to move forward with firing Comey because he "thought it was in the best interest of the American people."

Also on Sunday's “Meet The Press,” Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, noted that “one thing we’ve learned from the testimony of multiple people now is the president is pretty fired up about this" and doesn't believe that he did anything wrong. The president “wants people to say that," he said.

Rubio is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is doing its own probe into Russian election interference. He maintained that the president’s actions won’t prevent any of the investigations from proceeding, and that getting to the bottom of what happened would benefit all involved, including President Trump.

“This is is going to move forward,” he said. “We are going to get the full truth out there. I believe this is the thing that could happen for the president.”

Trump doesn't want this investigation shut down within a week. He knows he is going to be exonerated when it ends.

The longer it goes on, the more he will appear as a victim of the very "Swamp" he is trying to drain ... and the longer it goes on, the more thoroughly the media who has been reporting these fake news stories to undermine him will be discredited.

I wish the President would send the Deputy AG a Performance Evaluation citing his apparent inability to control his people and sensitive information. Let him know that continued leaks (true or false) from the DoJ will result in his termination. Then publically call out the Attorney General to fix the apparent lack of integrity rampant in the Department of Justice.

President Obama assured Americans in October 2016, that our elections could not be hacked... when that turned out to be true, Democrats got real mad! #ImpeachNow

Sekulow acknowledged? BS. Sekulow was pointing out to the mendacious host what Trump said six weeks ago.

TRUMP: They -- [Rosenstein] made a recommendation. He's highly respected. Very good guy, very smart guy. And the Democrats like him. The Republicans like him.

He had made a recommendation. But regardless of recommendation, I was going to fire Comey knowing there was no good time to do it

And in fact, when I decided to just do it, I said to myself -- I said, you know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story. It's an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should've won.

And the reason they should've won it is the electoral college is almost impossible for a Republican to win. It's very hard because you start off at such a disadvantage. So, everybody was thinking they should've won the election. This was an excuse for having lost an election.

HOLT: But were -- are you angry ... angry with Mr. Comey because of his Russia investigation?

TRUMP: I just want somebody that's competent. I am a big fan of the FBI. I love the FBI.

HOLT: But were you a fan of ... [Comey] taking up that investigation?

TRUMP: I think that -- about the Hillary Clinton investigation?

HOLT: No, about -- about the Russian investigation and possible...

TRUMP: No, I don't care... Look -- look, let me tell you. As far as I'm concerned, I want that thing to be absolutely done properly.

When I did this now, I said I probably maybe will confuse people. Maybe I'll expand that -- you know, I'll lengthen the time because it should be over with. It should -- in my opinion, should've been over with a long time ago because it -- all it is an excuse.

But I said to myself I might even lengthen out the investigation. But I have to do the right thing for the American people.

He's the wrong man for that position.

The press and Congress cite the Holt interview for the proposition that Trump gave as a reason for firing Comey, that he wanted "The Russian investigation" to end.

The Holt interview stands for the opposite proposition.

“On the other hand I have no use for Chris Wallace.”

I saw that interview. Wallace would not give Sekalow an opportunity to explain his context, (Wallace would jump in and seize on half of a thought), and Wallace even admitted it at the end, when he said Sekalow should come back and be in the studio where they could be on the same wavelength, if that is the word he used.

The President is under constant microscopic investigation and surveillance by the Lying Leftists who passed on Obama’s daily treason and unconstitutional tyranny, but have to invent misdeeds by Trump.

They are the Hypocrites of the Lying Left.

same as me. Geraldo, Shep Smith, Wallace, and some others I turn the channel, that is if I even have FOX on now.

You may not watch them but you are still funding them. Each channel gets a subscriber fee.

Even if you never turn on your tv when you write a check to the cable company you are funding the Left media cartel.

-- but these kinds of things do confuse people. --

It takes a bit of effort to learn to "read" the man. Sometimes what he says he intends you to take literally, sometimes not. Sowing confusion is part of who he is.

The fact that Trump was not being literal in this case was reported on Friday evening. The WH was asked, and went on the record, rump was referring to the WaPo article, not confirming that he was under investigation.

That the press is in high dudgeon Sunday is risible.

I knew (or thought) when I saw the tweet that Trump was ginning up the press to chase a falsehood initiated by WaPo. The remark was a sort of sarcastic irony, an absurdity of you will. What makes it absurd is taking the premise as true, that Trump is under investigation for obstruction.

Your moment of confusion and/or angst (and there are many in that boat, I'm not picking on you) is regretable but in the end minor consequence.

I think you’re mistaken if you think people aren’t “fighting.” It’s just not reported. I and many others have called offices-—BTW, McTurd and Flake’s offices do NOT answer calls. They go straight to answering machines. They don’t take regular e-mails, only the crap website that no one looks at.

I and others launched a Twitter “DO YOUR JOB” campaign against every GOP senator save Sasse and McTurd and Grahamnesty, who are hopeless.

Each tweet should contain the following:
1. An admonition to get off the stupid Trump “investigations.” “Stop the investigations.” “Do your job.”

2. A line to the effect of “Mueller must resign.”

3. Needs to go to every GOP senator, not just yours.
