In the matter of immigration, mark this conservative columnist down as strongly pro-deportation. The United States has too many people who don’t work hard, don’t believe in God, don’t contribute much to society and don’t appreciate the greatness of the American system. They need to return whence they came. I speak of Americans whose families have been in this country for a few generations. Complacent, entitled and often shockingly ignorant on basic points of American law and history, they are the stagnant pool in which our national prospects risk drowning.

We used to be a country of farmers and craftsmen. We used to be a nation of vast, unpopulated prairies. We used to be a nation on the gold standard. We used to go coast to coast in covered wagons. We used to understand that a man profited from the fruits of his labor, and that his property was sacred.
None of these is true any longer. So why do the ancient, obsolete standards of immigration continue to apply, when the very conditions that gave rise to them have long since faded?

My family tree shows early arrivals to the colonies in the 1600s - legal immigrants - followed by other legal immigrants in various branches of my ancestry in the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s. No illegals at all, ever. There were several times when my parents or grandparents were legally eligible for welfare. They had too much pride to take it. Thank God!
We were a nation of law-abiding workers. Now we have a blend of criminals, parasites, and socialists leeching off of those who work. Time to deport the illegals and give the rest no choice but to work, or starve.

Note to Srephens: NOTHING is a fait accompli, including the past few decades of illegal immigration and its forced demographic shift. Halting it, ridding the immigration laws of the “family connection” priority, shifting quotas away from where past decades of immigration law favored, and national security priorities can collectively reverse the trends of the past decades. “Massive” asylum-immigration allowances for Europeans seeking escape from its collectivism and for Asians seeking escape from political tyranny can quickly change future outlooks on Americas demographics and against those Mr Stephens et al are favoring.

The article is purposely misleading. He makes no distinction between legal immigrants and illegals. Do the same comparison illegal immigrants and you will get different answers.

I would say that he is cherry picking but in fact many grad schools are full of Asian (many Chinese) and indian immigrants. They are here legally and sponsored by their nations. Universities love them because many pay full tuition. Notice he used RIT, a science school. They are not here getting degrees in gender studies. So how many of those grad students were hispanic illegals from south of the border?

Do second or third generation Americans count as immigrants in this analysis or just those off the boat? Also the number of immigrants to non immigrants is small which skews the statistics. The total number of businesses started by non-immigrants is much greater than those by immigrants. PS, how many of those businesses were started by illegals?

I strongly suspect that if you take blacks out of the equation the results will be different. Approx 70% of American blacks are born out of wedlock and the crime rate between blacks and whites is similarly disproportionate.
